A quick look at the Currency Kidney... - By: EmmaCate, 10 Jul 2008
The humour travels round with you it's so darn good.
I can't go on holiday without thinking 'This is a high clarrrss bureau de chawnge!' at least once, or see the weather forecast in the lift without thinking 'Breezes', or listen to Phil Collins without thinking 'Ahpumpedherfulloflead, becauseshewasan....Uuuuuzi luvvvah.'
Hilarious - By: Tangerine, 27 Apr 2008
I remember when this was originallly shown on television & how I laughed at the silly news stories. Alan Partridge is even here presenting his sports news (his horse racing commentary is so funny I soiled myself). The Day Today is just brilliant & is a fine addition to any DVD collection. It is as is the case with comedy not going to be to everyones taste but I suspect the majority will find this a very amusing DVD indeed.
The Hidden Extras are Comedy Gold - By: C. Cousins, 22 Sep 2007
I loved this programme when it was on & when I bought this DVD I was shocked to find I still loved it. The bullied vicar, & rogue dentists still had me laughing out loud.
As for one of the hidden extras I only discovered it as I got callled away from the DVD just as I put it in & when I came back it was to hear Chris Morris on the phone with Peter O'Hanraha-hanrahan who was supposed to be in New York on 11 September for a meeting in a 'tower'. If you recalll how inept Peter was you can imagine how the conversation goes.
All in alll a great buy.
Unfortunately the cat was filled with nitro-glycerine - By: Mr. A. Sands, 16 Apr 2007
Like Brasseye? Want to see the roots of it's anarchic behaviour?
Like Alan Partridge? Want to the see the roots of his character?
Like The Office? Want to see where Gervais got his inspiration for it?
Etc etc, this series is responsible for so much of modern UK comedy & is itself, genius. Like Brasseye, the humour here is random, random, random. The characters are top notch & the dialogue/article names are perfectly chaotic. Horses in the underground, bomb dogs, a mobile bureau de change, currency cat, gay weather, I could go on.
It's not that offensive, & from what I can remember there's not that much swearing in it, but it is damn funny.
"Those are the headlines, God, I wish they weren't." - By: Mr. A. Peacock, 12 Apr 2007
The Day Today is perhaps the most widely loved out of Chris Morris' three satirical television shows (the others being Brass Eye & Jam). Morris was still fairly new to television at that point so didn't take some of the risks associated with the latter shows. However that is not to say that The Day Today is in any way restrained or only mildy amusing - It is quite simply absolutely hilarious.
Featuring Morris as the lead anchorman in an ultra serious news programme, with Steeve Coogan as Alan Patridge (his character's debut) - the brilliantly clueless sport's desk commentator, Doon Mackichan as the insanely bizarre economic spokesperson Collaterlie Sisters, Rebecca Front as the bearded nature reporter & absolutely countless other brilliant creations.
The features are just so brilliant, a simple elderly night janitor of a swimming pool describes how he was distracted one night by a particularly tricky crossword when a group of youths had snuck into the pool & were ducking, bombing, & numerous other prohibited activities, "and eventuallly someone was killed."
"The Bureau" Soap set in a bureau de change is particularly memorable.
But no, i don't want to spoil the 6 30 minute episodes for you by describing the jokes! If your new to this programme then alll you need know is it's an extremely funny & popular satirical news show filled with endlessly quotable lines.
The dvd itself delivers a good clear image, with particularly good sound; the extras are genuinly extensive with interviews, commentaries, & even more sketches! Also it's full of hidden extras for the truly keen of you.
So alll in alll a definite must buy for absolutely any dvd collector or anyone interested in excellent comedy.
