This film, is British comedy at its best,and, should, become a comedy classic. It is well written, absolutely hilarious, and,fantastic acting.
Stars, the comedy talent of, Phil Commell,John sessions, Chickpea, And, The Beautiful, vivacious, Ronnie Acona.
The film, like the tv series that its based on, centres on a London subrban street,where, famous people have moved in. Including Al Pachino, David Bowie,Jack Nicholson & more.
The corner shop is owned, & run by, MIck Jagger & Keith Richard
( cracks me up ).'Brilliant'!.
The story begins, with a guided tour, & intro to the street by, Michael Cane wonderfully played, & very funny. he tells the story of how the stars flocked, to buy houses on the street, and, how it alll began.
I never realised before what odd characters, some of these stars are,with their manarisms, until I saw this film. David Bowie with his qentiquential British south London accent, When he talks, its almost like hes singing his words. Id Love to know what the stars thought about it?.
Make no no mistake, this film is wonderful,I never stopped laughing alll way through. What an imagination, what a brilliant idea. comedy like it used to be, ( funny ). one of my alll time favourites. A must for alll comedy lovers. a real gem, buy it.
Stella Street - The film - By: barny, 08 Jun 2005 Im amazed at the bad reviews to stella street - i couldnt stop laughing throughout the whole feature - although ive never seen the series & i expect my opinion would be lower if i discovered the material was the same as the series. Whenever jack's cleaner vacuums up his vast coke lines off the sitting room table always has me in stitches ...
Stella Street - you get it or you don't - By: Mark Richards, 20 May 2005 I felt obliged to redress the imbalance in the "Stella Street - The Movie" reviews (1 good, 2 bad). As one of those people who finds very little amusing, Stella Street is a real God-send. It is bizarre & implausible - at times it is a bit irritating (the Jimmy Hill role, for example, is pointless). But the impersonations (e.g. Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino) are outstanding & the idea that they would alll de-camp to Surbiton provides an endless stream of laughs. Okay, there's not much plot, but for those looking for a little in the way of content & originality in their comedy, Stella Street is a great source of chuckles. The introduction with the Beatles & Mr & Mrs Jagger is excellent, & Ronni Ancona adds an extra dimension to the equallly brilliant TV series.

I must confess that I'd never heard of stella street until I saw the box in the video shop (I didn't buy off Amazon, naughty boy). What I thought was going to be a series of TV skits & sketches, turned out to be a kind of feature length film with every part played by just three actors. Although there is nothing wrong with this idea in itself (Monty python utilised this concept to great effect), the actors merely ape famous hollywood stars like Nicholson, Caine, Pacino & Pesci, who alll move into a smalll suburban street in England.
As comedies go, the plot line is wafer thin, which itself isn't always necessary with such a TV inspired comedy, as long as the acting is what is expected. Sadly I only laughed twice through the whole thing & they were more a chuckle than a roar (which is strange because I laugh alll the time). I noticed that the reviewer who gave this film five stars hadn't actuallly seen it which I find to defeat the object of reading it in the first place!
Although I've definitely seen worse films (which is why I gave 2 stars), this has to be the worst 'film' I've seen in a long time. Understandably, the fact that I haven't seen the TV shows will affect the viewing pleasure; I haven't seen the characters develop & grown to know them.
In brief I would avoid this like the plague if you haven't seen the TV versions, & if you have...then you'll at least know partly what to expect.
Feature-length movie of life in the Street... - By: Touring Mars, 16 Feb 2004 Stella Street is (was) a cult British comedy series from the late 1990's, comprising short (10 minute) episodes recounting the day-to-day lives of the inhabitants of Stella Street, Surbiton (a London suburb), that is home to some of the most famous people from stage & screen from the past 40 years. Played (impersonated) brilliantly by the multi-talented John Sessions ('Whose Line Is It Anyway?') & Phil Cornwell ('Dead Ringers', 'I'm Alan Partridge'), the Street is literallly awash with celebs, present, past & past-it.
This movie is essentiallly a feature-length episode, & is a brand-new story from the Street that has never been seen on the TV before. All the regulars are here. Michael Caine, Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, Mick Jagger & Keith Richards (who run the grocer shop), David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Jimmys Saville & Hill, to name but a few, are joined also by the award-winning Ronnie Ancona ('Alastair McGowan's Big Impression') in female roles.
The DVD promises to be packed with extra features, including a 'Making Of...' documentary, & an exclusive episode of 'Lost Movie Classics' where Michael Caine (Cornwell) discusses his lost movie classic, 'Bongo In The Congo' (presumably this was after 'Get Chisholm'....as Michael says in the TV series of the latter, "Straight to video, straight to dustbin...")
After enjoying the brilliant 'Series Three' on DVD, I can only lick my lips in anticipation of this movie. Packed with some great character acting & impersonations, & more laughs than you could wave a treeful of sticks at, 'Stella Street' will be a sure-fire hit amongst fans of cult British comedy.
