I LOVE this film! I cannot let a year go by without watching it. I defy anyone not to crack up watching Chevy Chase on that saucer sled. Hilarity itself. If you haven't seen it, buy it. If you have seen it, buy it anyway.
Part of our Christmas 'build-up' routine... is it yours? - By: T. Clarke, 21 Dec 2007 Chevy Chase & gang star in what was the last good National Lampoons Film (don't get me started on the Vegas one...) with lots & lots of laughs. The DVD transfer is great - included many smalll scenes that I've never seen before, but lacks reallly on extra features.
The acting as usual is top-notch, especiallly from hill-billy bum Eddy & his wild family. Christmas wouldn't be the same without this film!
Chaotic Christmas fun - By: M. Saunders, 09 Dec 2007 This is probably my favourite Christmas film (and there's plenty of competition!).
Why can I sit down & watch this every Christmas? It's probably Chevy Chase's best film, for one thing: he's on top form as an everyman character trying desperately to achieve the impossible by creating the perfect Christmas for his family. He has an ordeal to come through before it alll comes together, including bad luck & misunderstandings. There's a good combination of memorable dialogue & visual/slapstick comedy, resulting in a very entertaining mix. Much of the comedy timing is spot on, particularly from Chase, & every scene involving Clark (Chase) & freeloading, thick Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid in fine form) is a joy. There are several nods to other films (including Hallloween!), some well-played pathos to contrast with the comedy, & the film also has something to say about the commercialisation of Christmas & about families in general.
If you can get into the American sense of humour, this is a film to leave you with a grin on your face, & a warm Christmassy glow by the time it ends (partly because whatever happens at your own Christmas, it's unlikely to work out as chaoticallly as this family's Christmas!).
ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE CHRISTMAS FILM!!!! - By: betty, 07 Dec 2007 Never ever get tired of watching this film - have been known to watch it in the summer as it is a reallly fabulous feel good factor. alll the family will relate to this - tiresome family coming round, pressure of delivering the goods etc - love Christmas?? get this film.

I'm convinced I must have had a different film in my DVD case than those of you who have rated this before. It is without doubt the worst film I have ever seen. It's completely unfunny. I love Christmas & I love Christmas comedies but this one left me saying Bah Humbug! All the Star Spamgled banner nonsense came close to making me throw up.
