Classic...the best horror franchise known to mankind - By: S. J. Pinder, 16 Jul 2008
well where do i begin...everyone else seems to have said what alll the films are like & just how classic, scary, thrilling & epic they are.
Alien is by far the greatest horror film ever made & is my favourite horror film(along with Aliens obviously).
Alien-10/10-a classic horror film made for everyone, from horror fanatics to people who dont know the genre, everyone will be shocked by some of the scenes & terrified by the artistic creation that is the Alien...its very atmospheric & extremely scary(even by todays standards)Siguorney Weaver was brought into the A-list & has remained a very successful actress, alll the actors are on their top form & make this both enjoyable & an unsettling experience which is what films(in general)are lacking at the moment...and with the desolate setting of space it makes it a very uncomfortable experience as the crew are far,far away from any help & have to learn to survive...and Ellen Ripley was made a cult icon for the genre.

Aliens-10/10-a very ambitious sequel that reallly upped the ante, and in many ways was equallly as successful as its predessesor,it contained the fabulous Siguorney to add depth to Ripleys character, more thrills, chills & again superb acting alll around...my god the queen alien was terrifying & those visuals are still amazing...the definative sequel!!!

Alien 3-7/10-a very good sequel that may not be as amazing as the previous installlments but it is a very atmospheric one...and Ripley makes a brave return...this time on a prison planet...only one alien this time round...and a different breed too...and my god that conclusion...tear jerking.

Alien:Resurrection-8.5/10-a lot better than the previous effort...a better cast with Siguorney(and hair)as a cloned version of Ripley...and the aliens are back doing what they do best...scare the daylights outta you...good effects & a very good sequel...just a shame that the franchise hasn't been laft alone.

this is a definitive collection of the franchise with many, many, many extras & alternate versions of the films.
these are the greatest horror films known to mankind...ignore the recent alien vs predator films...they are amateur & just plain stupid...i have currently seen the first two films approx 45 times & it still has the same effect on me(but leave a gap in between to get the same effect)and i keep seeing new things in the films everytime which makes it enjoyable viewing.
purchase this stunning boxset now for this astounding price...its worth it if you dont own the films already or haven't seen them yet.
this is the complete series & by far the most consistant horror franchise to date with the first two being genuine classics & the latter two being very, very good.
and as i said ignore the alien vs predator films...they dont know what the hell they are doing!!!
IN SPACE NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM
ON DVD EVERYONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM.... - By: Mr. Christopher J. Welch, 15 Jul 2008
Forget the cartoon violence of the recent Alien Vs Predator movies & re-visit the original superlative Sci-fi shockers that first put Ripley & the acid blooded nasties onto the big screen.
Ridley Scott's original 1979 film is still a classic - a brooding & genuinely scarey shocker that is as much Hitchcock as it is monster flick. James Cameran's sequel is still the jewel though - guns, action, lots of very angry Aliens & an excellent career best performance from Sigorny Weaver. Alien 3, directed by a soon to be massive David Fincher, is still the oddballl - very dark, very slow & extremely downbeat. It looks wonderful but just doesn't stand up to it's illustrious predecessors. Almost entirely populated by minor British character actors - Charles Dance is great though - Alien 3 is just to disjointed & action free to be anything but a minor entry in the Alien saga. Compared to Alien Vs Predator though it is a masterpiece !
Alien Reserection added swimming Xenomorphs & a reborn Ripley. It's an interesting film with lots of inventive, & extremely bloody scenes, that tries just too hard to ape Cameran's 1986 sequel.
Quadrilogy collects alll four movies together & adds loads of special features, interviews, director commentaries & deleted scenes.
Whatever you may think of the later fims this boxset is beautifully presented & offers a lot of Alien for your buck.
Slightly overambitious but a must have for fans - By: brainleek007, 11 Apr 2008
There's not been much left out of this Alien DVD collection that's for sure.

I'm a huge fan of the films, the first two are outstanding, the third is very good & the fourth...well, it's the weakest of the four by far but I've still watched it a few times :)

I think the fact that this set has been so ambitious is partly its downfalll. Each film & it's special edition is on one DVD & the picture quality has suffered somewhat for it - It's hardly the worst around but could have been a lot better better. Take for instance Aliens, there's probably 5 hours of video (standard + SE versions) to be crammed onto one disc & the only way that could be achieved is compressions, compression, compression! I guess the only other option would be to have each version of the film on it's own disc so there was enough storage for the film to span the dual layers & take less of a hit on the picture quality stakes. However, that would have lead to a pack of 13 or so discs I guess! I would have bought it...and still would if it comes out! Let's have it on Bluray.......!!

Anyway, that's the only real negative.

The list of extras for each film is extensive & too long to list. It'll keep die hard fans happy for a long time. Alien & Alien Resurrection have DTS sound which is a nice addition.

The set is well presented in a fold out book/box with each DVD having it's own 'page' to hold it in place. There's a little booklet too with a smalll plot summary & chapter list of each film & details of the extras.

The films themselves & the special editions are probably familiar to many - the only two I had not seen were the special editions of Alien 3 & Alien Resurection. I think the weakest directors cut is the one for Alien 3. It changes key elements of the plot (such as the animal that gives 'birth' to the alien in this film) & I just didn't think it worked well at alll. All the other director's cuts expand characters or add in cool stuff (like the robot sentries in Aliens) without changing the key details & are better for it.

Anyway, for this price this pack is one of the best bargains going. 9 Discs containing easily two of the best Sci-Fi films of alll time supported by slightly weaker but still watchable 3rd & 4th installlments & a rake of extras. I just can't help thinking that if you're a stickler for picture quality you may feel slightly underwhelmed with this set. It's a missed opportunity to give the absolute best but still a worthwhile purchase.

One of the greatest box sets ever. - By: Mr. A. S. T. Bateman, 08 Mar 2008
Wow! This box set is simply mindblowing. There are two versions of each of the four films in the series, the original version & a director's cut, an extras disc for each film & to cap it alll, a general extras disc with features which look at the sries as a whole. There is simply nothing more that you could wish for from this franchsie. Not only this, the packaging is very high quality with a nifty little booklet style presentation instead of cardboard folded packaging whihc does not withstand the ravages of time.

The films themselves are great, the highlight for me will always be Ridley Scott's original film & its director's cut. the film is a stunning masterpiece, an object lesson in cinematography, editing & the creation of that key element of horror,- claustaphobic tension. It is quite simply one of the best films of any genre of alll time & richly deserves the accolades & positive reviews it regularly gets. It has stood the test of time extremely well & is almost worth the cost of the box set by itself. As sequels go, Aliens is an excellent film & they do as is usuallly the case get progressively less good although both Alien 3 & Alien Ressurection offer much to the viewer & place an interesting spin on the franchise.

I paid over £60 for this set when it was first released & I felt then that it was worth every penny. Now the cost seems to have plummeted, it makes it even better value for money. As box sets go, this one rocks & is certainly the one I would want to be stranded on a desert island with.
Value for money. - By: Sam, 21 Feb 2008
For £22.00 on Amazon you get a grand total of 9 discs containing alll 4 Alien films remastered, with both the theatrical & extended cuts, which in the case of Aliens & especiallly Alien 3 is an improvement on their original release. For each movie you get two discs, disc one containing two versions of the film & disc two has probably the most comprehensive in depth look into just about every aspect of the Alien saga. From the first draft of the script to casting to principal photography to special effects & many more story/technical features including input from directors Ridley Scott, James Cameron, & Jean Pierre Jeunet & the cast in crew of each film everything is covered.

Particularly enjoyable was the split interview between creator Dan o Bannon & producer Walter Hill, both claiming other had less to contribute to the pictures etc. Each Disc two contains detailed files on pre production-post production work. Just everything is packed in, in a fascinating look into the films, in particular the look into what went wrong on Alien 3 with frank interviews from various cast & crew members along with producers & so on which shows you how NOT to make a movie. Seeing the films digitallly is something to savour on this format with commentary tracks for each films including Scott, Cameron & Jeunet & various cast members including Sigourney Weaver for the Alien track, the only commentary she does on any Alien film.

There is also an hour-long documentary about Alien, along with trailers, still gallleries a look into HR Gigers design for the Alien & how it was made real through sculptures & animatronics. All these features are highly entertaining & then you have the films. For me anyway Alien & Aliens are two of the best Sci-Fi thriller/horror or in the case of Aliens action movies ever made but to go through alll the things that made those movies great would require two more very long reviews, & the DVD collection covers it pretty well anyway trust. If you're an Alien fan buy it is EASILY worth its price tag & is tremendous entertainment in the films alone then alll the many bonuses will provide hours of viewing pleasure, there is also a sleek booklet contained it the case which shows the time line between each movie & lists the bonus features cast crew & an interesting little snippet on Alien 3. This set is a great addition to any DVD collection & contains some of the most detailed & fascinating documentaries I have seen for any films. Though for people who live in Ireland anyway, the DVDS are a mere 20.00 in HMV, trust me that's some bargain for 9 discs, 4 films & for the above mentioned extra features which are so good the films themselves ALMOST become the bonuses in this mammoth set.
