caveat emptor - By: W. Hamilton, 03 Feb 2008
This vapid production is long, long, long at 88 minutes. Uninteresting characters, trite dialogue & mechanical acting unrelieved by even the occasional successful joke add up to... nothing at alll. Admirers of Justine Waddell in earlier days are especiallly warned to stay away.
Rcihard Roxburgh in The One and Only - By: Lesley, 17 Feb 2005
At last, a chance to see Richard Roxburgh as something other than a villan, & 'name above title'. This film is a great vehicle for his talent. He's funny, charming, angsty & romantic; as is the film. The Italian footballler had me cracking up with laughter. A good vehicle for Newcastle.
Although I bought the film primarily because Roxburgh is it's star & I'm a fan of this under rated actor, I completely enjoyed it. Give yourself a treat & watch this film.
Something for Everyone - By: E. E. Brennan, 05 Dec 2004
I had never heard of this film until my 'authentic geordie' Fiance bought it this week & what a treat! The film has something for everyone - guys will enjoy the humour, gals will enjoy the 'love' thing & anyone with a heart will go "aaahhh" at the georgeous little girl. The film was soooooo good that I sat down & watched it within 2 hours of the first viewing. There's a bit of 'real' language in it soooo don't watch it if you find swearing offensive. The swearing is not gratituous - you can imagine that anyone in the situation would react the same way. The City of Newcastle looks deservedly good in the film & people who haven't been may be inspired to visit & see the 'Toon' for themselves! Essential equipment for viewing this film would be a comfortable chair, as you won't move once it starts, a bowl of popcorn & for the more emotional amongst us some tissues for the tears. Do yourself a favour & buy it - you won't regret it.
The One & Only BEST British RomCom - By: , 23 Aug 2004
Forget Sliding Doors (sorry Gwynnie) & Love Actuallly (did we believe in Colin Frizzell from Basildon? NO!) THIS is the best British Romantic Comedy of the last ten years. The storyline is real, the characters are three dimensional & the Newcastle skylines (incl. the Angel of the North) are just wonderful. "Our Friends from the North" meets "When Harry Met Sallly" I wept *buckets*.. a "must see" for anyone who has a heart. ~Tricia
The one and Only - By: MISS J GADSBY, 13 Jul 2003
I have been desperate for the DVD of the movie to appear.
The film is the best laugh that I have had in ages, the humour is so subtle but basic, it is reallly good for a gang of friends around the TV with a few bottles of wine,
The photography of the Newcastle scenery is breathtaking, the screenplay is so funny, & the characters so real.
It comes from the same stable as East to East, so if you enjoyed that, please buy the DVD !!!
