Awesome Movie!! - By: GothBabe07, 01 Aug 2008
Having never seen the first movie, I was a little worried that I wouldn't be able to follow the plot of this one. Thankfully, I had no such trouble. Thoroughly enjoyable, it kept me quite literallly on the edge of my seat (luckily I didn't falll off the sofa).
Unfortunately the DVD belongs to my boyfriend, but you can rest assured that the whole Final Destination franchise will be appearing on my wishlist sometime soon.

Of alll the Scream clones, or more appropriately, teen horror movies to come from the nineties & beyond, Final Destination has always been the best. It seemed likely then that it would get a sequel, & deservedly so as the first was so effective, & we want to see what has become of the survivors. As with the majority of horror sequels, the gore is increased, the deaths are more elaborate, & the plot introduces something new. And of course it is not as good. However, the makers of Final Destination 2 clearly recognise this, & rather than trying to make a superior film, they try to out-do the first in shock value & death scenes, & at times succeed, as well as making the story involving & entertaining too. Much of the tension, thematic depth, & style of the first film is lost, but it more than makes up for this with buckets of blood which will satisfy alll us gore hounds.
Kimberley & her friends are leaving for Spring Break. On the highway she has a premonition of a massive pile-up & her own death, as well as the deaths of several others. She stops her car, thereby preventing her involvement with the crash, & alll the cars behind her whose passengers would have been killed. A cop intervenes & she tries to explain. The pile-up occurs anyway, & her friends are killed too. Soon it becomes apparent that they have cheated death, who is now coming to pick them off one by one. Some believe this, some don't, & Kimberley decides to find Clear rivers, the sole survivor of last year's similar phenomenon. Together they try to stop death from getting them, but it seems that death will not be fooled so easily this time.
Like the first film, an unusual amount of other story lines could have been conceived if a certain character had done a certain thing differently. Questions of fate though are largely avoided in favour of elaborate deaths & effects, though this is still an intelligent film. As alll the survivors of the car crash are connected to those who died in the aftermath of the plane crash, it may be thought that death is doing this simply to pull Clear into the open. The ripple effect may be said to be ever expanding, that soon everyone will die, & of course this is true, but while death may be stalking us alll, new life ensures that we will continue to exist. The deaths here are mostly more impressive, less subtle, as some of the original deaths were slow & seemingly could have been easily avoided. Here, heads are smashed off, people are burnt & cut apart & various implements are used to deadly, & funny effect. The film moves quickly, with less emphasis on characterisation than the first had, but there are still many laughs, shocks & excitement. While the first may have instilled a genuine fear of death, this is mainly about fun & gore.
As with the first film the features are better than expected. Documentaries, deleted scenes, & games make this a worthy buy.

A WONDERFUL, WATCHABLE SEQUEL - By: stuart, 06 Aug 2007
Driving to college, Kimberly Corman (A.J. Cook) travels with her friend Shaina (Sarah Carter) & her two younger brothers (Alex Rae) (Shaun Sipos) when she gets strange messages telling her not to get on a specific freeway ramp. She causes outrage when the signs prove true & she blocks traffic, but the accident happens anyway, killing a large number of people. The survivors, Eugene (T.C. Carson), Rory (Jonathon Cherry) Katherine Jennings (Keegon Connor Tracy) Nora Carpenter (Lynda Boyd) & her son Tim (James Kirk) are alll held up at the police station & Kim begins to tell everyone about her strange premonitions. They alll leave, but one person dies, & Kim begins to suspect that her premonitions are reallly something more. She goes to see Clear Rivers, (Ali Larter) who has had similar experience with premonitions. She reluctantly accepts Kim's offer to help her spot the signs to keep & the others alive, but the killing has begun. A police officer who initiallly brought everybody in for questioning, Burke (Jim Landes) also offers his assistance in keeping everyone alive, but it becomes a race against time as everyone has scattered after dismissing the tales & left on their own.
The Good News: What this one did that the first one did touch on was that this one was that the gore could work with high-levels of suspense. Here, the deaths are far more violent & gruesome. Among them are being impaled through the eye with a step ladder, being decapitated by an elevator door, eviscerated in more than one spot by a barbed wire fence, & a pointed piece of debris being thrust into someone's head at high speed. These were the more graphic deaths, but there were more that came with suspense. The whole death of Tim is perhaps the best, as he has at least three false deaths before his final sendoff, but it works as alll three were legitimate-looking scenes that were accidents waiting to happen. Of the three, the first one was the creepiest. A scene involving more-aggressive-than-normal pigeons, nitrous oxide, & an inflated stuffed toy alll come together in ingenious fashion that kills off a young kid in what one could argue as the most violent death in the film. Several jumps are included for good measure, as it knocks your socks off. Following the first films' plane explosion that opened the film, this one starts off with what will be my favorite car crash scene in years to come. The crash involves over five different cars, alll of which explode, a motorcycle, a transport truck, & several semi's alll crash together in a simply awesome-looking crash that takes over several minutes to finish. So much goes on in the scene that it is a monumentous ode to the filmmakers to pull the scene off. It includes not only several cars flipping over & the destruction of several cars & trucks, but even more impressive stunts throughout that is simply a wonder to behold. I can't praise this scene enough, it has to be watched. I also loved the way that they introduced the reason for making this movie. It is very plausible for everything to have occurred that they connected everybody in this film to what had happened in the first film. It is confusing, but it is a very clever way of tying everything together. I could go on commenting on what I loved about this film, but I would run out of the required room to do so.
The Bad News: I felt that the signs in here were way to forced to be believable. It took a lot of stretching the mind to accept that those signs were possible for them to see. The most obvious is the clues that lead to Nora's death. That was simply way out in left field as to whether or not that could be possible for anyone to see. The signs were not as creative as the first one, which did a fantastic job of setting up the signs for others to see.
The Final Verdict: If you see this only for the fantastic car crash at the beginning, then do so. Watching the rest will expose you to a more thought out film than most that are coming out now & is a creepy & gory film as well.
