BUY IT NOW!!!! - By: linny, 25 Jun 2007
My absolute favourite film of alll time, it always makes me smile no matter what & i have been known to put it straight back on as soon as it rewound on more than one occassion! Don't take it too seriously just sit back & enjoy the costumes, the comedy & the feel good factor. What more could you want in a film than 3 drags queens getting stranded whilst travelling across America & forever changing smalll town minds? It's just so American its hilarious but heart warming at the same time. I cannot describe how much i love this film, it suits alll ages & moods & i would have given it 6 stars if possible!
Mary Poppins with muscles! - By: Mr. M. Poole, 10 Apr 2007
Who would ever have thought that Patrick Swaze would make such a perfect (if muscular!) Mary Poppins!
This film is not quite as good as Priscilla Queen of the Desert, which also deserves 5 stars, but it's still a fun romp in its own right.
A film doesn't have to be depressing, angst-ridden or "worthy" to be worth seeing. This film makes my family care about the characters & laugh their socks off. It leaves us alll feeling the better for having seen it. Last night, my 12 year old son punched the air & shouted "Yes!" as Mr Swaze sorted out an abusive husband. It works for a wide audience.
It is, of course, also an indisputable truth that Julie Newmar is the greatest ever Catwoman...
Why not see it for yourself?
To Wongs Dont Make It Right !? And Thanks for Nothing ! - By: Clinty, 23 Mar 2007
Mmm this film actuallly is a grower - if you watch it a 2nd time, the characters become more likable & their little idiosynchrasies are more amusing (there IS the problem that they are quite 'American' in their ways - & you almost have to strain to catch some of the put downs & 'ad libs' - then decide that as a non-American you are never gonna be 'in' on the joke !).
Despite this, Chi-Chi (John L.) is by far the most watchable thing in the film & is a 'natural' woman. Chi-Chi steals alll the best scenes (she has 'more legs than a bucket of chicken' afteralll !)- but I guess the film is ultimately about a 'Little Latin Boy in Drag' graduating into a fully-fledged 'Drag Queen' with the help of characters played by Patrick Swayze & Wesley Snipes (also in Drag) - with a Road Trip ( a la Priscilla Queen of The Desert ) thrown in for good measure.
It has become a little fave now of mine - the 4 wonderful 'Steps To Becoming A Drag Queen' can be applied to anyone & I would say : OK SO IT'S NOT AS GOOD AS PRISCILLA - GET OVER IT ! then enjoy the film for the lighthearted well-meaning camp comedy that it is !
The only thing that continues to puzzle me though is : when Vida(Swayze) tries to explain exactly what the difference is between a Transexual, Transvestite & Drag Queen. It leaves me to question why they choose - as self confessed Queens - to wear ALL the paraphenalia ALL THE TIME & WHEREVER THEY ARE (which is what a tranny would do ) But hey lets not split wig hairs ! Just enjoy !!
utter drivel..... - By: Chief Koala, 13 Nov 2006
A complete waste of space........this film has no heart or star quality whatsoever - the storyline is disjointed & pretty pointless, the vain attempts at sensitivity falll flat & with the exception of John Leguizamo (who is about the only good thing in this celluloid nightmare) the lead characters played by Messrs. Swayze & Snipes are embarrasingly over the top - this is a mess of a film which is blatantly trying to emulate the humor & emotion of "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" - i had so many people say I would like this because i loved "Priscilla" - how wrong they were......the whole film has an incomplete feel to it & I found myself not caring a bit aboout the characters.......Chris Penn as a bigoted cop seemed to near the knuckle for me (almost as though he wasnt acting at alll in his venomous hatred of the drag queen & the implied but seriously underplayed homosexual overtones/feelings he may/may not have which were displayed in the bar scene with him in)
Crap. Dont waste your money.......
fabulous! - By: Shaan, 04 Apr 2006
okay, first things first, DO NOT compare this movie with Priscilla. there'll be a strong urge to do so but i implore you, see this movie on it's own merit. c'mon, think about it, every womans (and some mens!)dream hunk, in drag! & every mans hard man in drag too! only comedy could ensue. it's simply fabulous! it's kitsch, harmless, & funny as hell! but compare it with Priscilla at your own peril. this movie IS the americans reply to priscilla but i think they've pulled it off. OF COURSE it's going to have the same ideas, but whats magical about this movie is they've made it so typicallly american & you can't help but like it.
