CLAMP's original success story... OAV-style - By: , 16 May 2004
Rayearth OAV is the spin off to the anime "Magic Knight Rayearth". Set in Tokyo, 3 best friends (Hikaru, Umi & Fuu) make a promise under a cherry blossom tree to stay together forever. Tokyo (where else in the world) soon comes underthreat to a new enemy however & the three girls are chosen to protect it.

The story is gripping & the animation is almost perfect - infact I was shocked at how decent it was. One major draw back though, I had a panic attack when I couldn't put Japanese subtitles on. Nevertheless, I am surprised to say I still enjoyed watching it in English - the dubbing wasn't that bad after alll!

If you like this, you should consider watching "Magic Knight Rayearth" & also, maybe, Angelic Layer - as Hikaru is recreated in there as the Angel fighter doll "Hikaru"... CLAMP must have had a brain freeze over new characters.

Now that's more like it - By: lotrrr, 24 Mar 2004
The difference between this DVD & the region 2 DVD is that this one contains Japanese audio & English subtitles too. In my opinion I think it's worth hunting out a copy & buying this one instead.
Why are we missing out? - By: lotrrr, 24 Mar 2004
Great animation, great characters, great storyline, blah, blah, blah...
There's only one gripe I have about this DVD. How come we only have the English language version, but the region 1 release has the Japanese audio too?
This DVD is so weak with the English voice-acting, & to reallly appreciate this short anime series you absolutely NEED to watch it in Japanese.
Not bad for a English version - By: Marine_Snow, 02 Feb 2004
I love watching anime & this English anime version did not put me down. The music & sound quality is the same as the Japanese version which makes it great & another good thing about this DVD is the fact they never cut or edit any scenes out like they did with the English versions of Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon, Pokemon etc......
I have read the whole series of the "Magic Knight Rayearth" manga before I watched this DVD & the story on the DVD is totallly different from the manga. Either way I prefer the manga because it is easiar to understand the story & it has lot's of interesting plots which makes you want to read on.
The DVD features 3 full episodes about 3 girls callled Hikaru, Umi & Fuu who is just about to graduate, therefore they are never going to see each other again & go their seperate ways. They made a wish under the Cherry tree to stay together. At that moment Cephiro's castle broke into the world & the 3 girls where chosen by Mokona to save the world.
Well with this DVD I can prove to my friends that Magic Knight Rayearth & other Animes are not for kids as this DVD features bad language, nudity etc...... it is even classified 15. Well it is a must have for alll CLAMP & Magic knight Rayearth fans.... you'll be saying why didn't I got this DVD earlier!
and what are you waiting for its a bargin!
Magnificent. What anime should be like. - By: Chris, 17 Dec 2003
After watching, & being severely displeased by Legend of the Overfiend, my love of anime was dwindling. Thank God that this was the next one I watched because it has restored my faith in the fact that, actuallly, there are some damn good anime films out there!

Rayearth kept me gripped from start to finish. OK, so perhaps it won't win many awards for originality, it's alll very much cliché. Tokyo is destroyed, three girls must fight evil to save the earth & are given super powers with which to do so. Great. But where this film shines is... well... every other thing about it! The animation is excellent (even though I think I detected a slight wobble in some frames... maybe it was my DVD player or something). The music is catchy. The scripting is remarkably well done. Everything about this film screams QUALITY at you. And then it's over & you're left crying out for more.

Go buy this DVD now. You won't be disappointed!
