I Could Fall In Love - By: Rebecca Roberts, 31 Dec 2007
To anyone who thinks that Jennifer Lopez is a bad actress - they need to watch this film. She is at her best in this & portrays a legend so well. I cannot imagine anyone else being able to play the part of Selena so accurately & so enigmaticallly. She managed to capture the true spirit of Selena's performance & the closeness of the relationships between Selena & those around her, in particular her father Abraham & her husband Cris.
As for the music it is spine tingling. Selena's voice is used with the bulk of the material from the Selena Live: The Last Concert album. Being someone that has seen this wonderful concert i would have to say that Lopez' stage performance was near identical to Selena's own performance. You can see just how much work Lopez put into portaying one of her idols. On the Live CD there is a behind the scenes special & they run a comparative replay of Selena performing against Jennifer where you can reallly see the similarities. It also shows the auditions & Selena's own family give their views on Jennifer. They were directly involved with the filming of this movie.
This is a must watch for anyone that is a fan of Selena & her music. I would also recommend it to any fans of Jennifer or tejano/latin music as a genre.
Movie- Brilliant/ DVD- Poor - By: C. Anderson, 01 Apr 2006
The Movie Selena is one of those biog films that is good without being too sentimental & you do feel as if you know Selena afterwards. Jennifer Lopez brought her to life.
The only thing I didn't like was the way Selenas death was handled. It seemed rushed & I felt as if we should of seen the argument that happened before the fatal shooting, maybe it because the film was made two years after her death, but it would of made more sense. Yolanda could of also been a bigger character, after alll, she did end up killing Selena.
Overalll its a great film with an uplifting soundtrack, even though it is sad at the end, it is a happy feel good movie.
The DVD is poor. There is no trailer, no special features, no out-takes & some of Selena's videos/concerts would of been a bonus, also Behind The Music- Selena would of been nice!
A tragic story of love, passion and inspiration - By: E. Hancock, 26 Apr 2005
Words cannot describe how I felt at the end of this movie. Before watching it I had not heard about Selena or her style of music, after the movie I wanted to know everything about her & hear alll of her music. It'll make you laugh, cry & sing but it will also give you the opportunity to have insight into one of the most amazing singers of the 20th Century. In 1995 Selena was taken from us tragicallly but her spirit still live on in this wonderful film. Jennifer Lopez shines as the lead, moreso than she does in her later movies. Its an uplifting story of a woman who was achieving her dreams until she was taken away from us... have the tissues handy.
very sad, - By: , 08 Mar 2005
I first saw the film whilst on honeymoon in thailand in 2001 i hadn't reallly heard of Selena before but the film was certainly one of those i will never forget. what a tragedy! someone so gifted & taken away in her prime. This is definately one to watch & makesure you have the tissues to hand. Jennifer lopez did a outsatnding performance Selena's parents should be proud of the way she portrayed her. The soundtrack from the film is also a must.
Tragic, yet powerful - By: , 18 Jan 2005
This film has everything a good film should have - it inspires & hits every emotion. Jennifer Lopez is fantastic & shows that she has the ability to reallly connect with the character she is playing.
This film is great, with absolutely fantastic music (buy selena's album if you can!) & her journey to stardom is nothing short of inspirational.
The ending is sad (and weepy), but perhaps the saddest thing about it is that it is a true story.
Utterly fantastic, brilliantly acted & the soundtrack is unbelieveable.
