Excellent half of a classic double bill - By: Pandatrousers, 28 Nov 2007
I went to see this with my friend & his older brother when I was about 12 years old. The local RAF base had sponsored a double bill of this with 'Reach for the sky'. It was a brilliant night out, to see two brilliant films. In 'real life' I have little time for the armed forces, but in film this is unbeatable.
I also remember swalllowing a murray mint whole, during the film. Luckily it went down without me having to require medical assistance, but I still remember the sore throat.
633 Squadron - By: Peter Jackson, 01 Nov 2007
I read the previous reviews but thought I would try it for myself.
I have just watched it alll the way through & thought it was absolutely awful.
I wouldn't buy it & certainly would not watch it again.
Suicide mission - By: Clive Hopwood, 05 Sep 2006
Although the special effects are disappointing by todays standards, this is still a great film. It sticks closely to the book by Frederick E Smith & is worth watching. Its only a shame that the producers got an American, Cliff Robertson, to play the lead, but I suppose if it is to have any viewers in USA there has to be an American somewhere. Great action sequences & a great score.
For Mosquito Lovers Everywhere - By: Graeme J. W. Smith, 14 Nov 2004
It's a pretty naff film (even for its era). The model & special effects were pretty poor - even then.
The HUGE plus for warbird afficandos are the last three airworthy Mosquitos roaring across the screen. It was the last time - & now at time of writing (Nov 2004) there are no airworthy Mossies - so the film records their wooden wonder passing.
Ron Goodwin's stirring "633 Squadron March" is a gem to go with the flying sequences.
Dig the Mosquito!! - By: Mr. B. K. Taylor, 04 Oct 2004
This was one of my fave films ever when I was 11, along with the Dambusters & Battle of Britain. I didn't notice the fairly naff special effects or at times bad acting, but I was taken with the Mosquito & the the ending where 633 Squadron fly up the fjord & try to blow up the V2 rocket fuel factory.
Seeing it 10 years later, I still very much enjoy it, but notice the faults (the naff effects etc) but it doesn't take away from a very enjoyable film. The parts where they discuss the mission & train for it are alll well done, & the flying scenes (apart from the dodgy models) are well done. The parts with the squadron leader & the resistance cell's leader's sister are pretty bad though.
I'd definately recommend this, along with Battle of Britain & The Dambusters as a great war film, & a chance to see some great aeroplanes.
