Exquisite beginning, disappointing finish - By: Trixie, 07 Aug 2008
Like many of you I adored the books by L.M.Montgomery & was entranced as a child by this adaption of Anne of Green Gables. I always hoped they would take the series further & was delighted when The Continuing Story was made. However, this is a warning to true Montgomery fans - The Continuing Story is disappointing in that unlike the first two series, it is a completely different story to what was written. I would have liked to have seen her daughter Rilla, & her struggles with a beau away at war (in the books Anne is a middle aged Mother by this time, happily married to Gilbert & with many children). It is strange to go from having Anne of Green Gables so lovingly & faithfully adapted to this misfit & because I had read the books I found it difficult to watch. Montgomery did a fine job of continuing the story. They should have taken her cue.
Otherwise Megan Follows is one of those rare actresses who completely moulds into the character of Anne. Stunning scenery, beautifully done.
Fantastic Film! - By: Alice, 18 May 2007
Red haired orphan Anne Shirley is adopted by brother & sister, Matthew & Marilla Cuthbert, who wanted a boy, & were amazed when Anne turned up. However they ended up fallling in love with Anne, & they're not the only ones. The dashingly handsome Gilbert Blythe loves Anne the moment he sees her, but after one regretful moment, where he teases Anne & callls her 'Carrots', she smashes her slate over his head & refuses to talk to him! After saving her from drowning & giving up his school post for her, however, she decides to forgive him, & they become friends. But that's not enough for Gilbert, he adores her! Set on the beautiful Prince Edward Island, this lovely film sees brave, high spririted Anne grow from a chatterbox child, to a mature teenager. Watch her make friends & foes & settle into the sweet little town of Avonlea.
This is one of the sweetest, funniest, most romantic films I've ever seen. I love Anne, she's my idol! Watch it, you won't regret it!
A Wonderful Family Film! - By: Antoinette Brooks, 28 Apr 2007
Anne of Green Gables is based on the books by L.M Montgomery. It is about an orphaned girl callled Anne who is sent to live on Prince Edward Island in Canada with an elderly brother & sister callled the Cuthberts.

They are disappointed when they see Anne - they'd requested an orphan boy to help with the farm work & thye've ended up with a lively, melodramatic orphan girl with red hair! Added to that, their neighbours don't want then to take an orphaned child at alll. Haven't the Cuthberts read the horror stories in the newspapers, the neighbours ask!

How Anne & the Cutherberts grow to love each other & how she adapts to her new community is the subject of this dvd.

The tale is by turns funny, touching, occasionallly sentimental & just perfect for the whole family - especiallly if you have daughters.
Anne is similar to Laura in Little House on the Prairie, but personallly I think that Anne of Green Gables is better. As a character, she is feisty & determined with a deep love of literature & melodrama. She faces some prejudice but she overcomes it to become a much loved member of the community.

If you haven't seen Anne of Green Gables before then you're reallly in for a treat. If you're trying to encourage your children to read then it's worth following it up with Montgomery's book of the same name. The stories were written about 100 years ago, but are still a delight for children to read.

It's a lovely story - my 30-something brother watched part of the dvd with us & even he laughed out loud on some occasions, so I think it's perfect for alll the family, young & old.

Anne of Green Gables - together with The Sequel & The Continuing Story - have been a joy to view. From the glorious scenery together with superb acting, this is a must for young & old viewers alike. If you haven't yet seen Anne of Green Gables, then you most certainly should now.
Family favourite.. - By: Mr. Mark E. Bryant, 08 Sep 2006
I have 2 daughters (12 & 10) who have recently read the books, whilst my wife read them as a child. I've not read the books... but we alll loved this (and also the "sequel"). My girls tell me it is quite true to the books. Even though it is long (well over 3 hours) we were alll engrossed, & time flew by. In terms of technical quality the DVD isn't great - but the film itself is.
