AMASING - By: Mr. G. Mcnaughton, 01 Oct 2008
This movie is brilliant, My Left Foot is one of those hidden gem. Winner of many Oscars, Daniel Day Lewis makes the performance of his life as Christy Brown a cerebral palsy sufferer with a lot of courage. The movie is based on Christy Browns life, it is enjoyable for alll the family & teaches us some life lessons on the way. ten outa ten, but don't take my word for it , watch it & see for yourself!

I didn't want to watch this film, but my wife persuaded me. I'm glad she did. The acting is superb. Brenda Fricker carries off the role of Christie's mum flawlessly. Daniel Day Lewis is so convincing as the cerebral palsy sufferer that it is a shock to realise he is acting! Hugh O'Connor acts the young Christie & is equallly convincing.

My Left Foot is the sort of work that is so commonly made over here, that the United States can praise & admire more, since it is very rare to see material that has both believable acting & a wonderful message in life. In America, it is seen as a miracle movie to be treasured.

Following the life story of Christy Brown, a young Irish lad, who grows up in his huddled white-collar Irish family. Despite having been diagnosed with cerebal plasy with the prospect of being put in a Children's home for the disabled, he unleases a talent for painting.....

My Left Foot was the debut film of Jim Sheridian, whose work focuses on the Irish struggle concluding after independance & the often violent troubles they have faced long after with poverty a key factor

May i start to discuss, the wonderful acting on show here. This was Day-Lewis' breakthrough performance, especiallly the encouragement from the many American critics, including Rogert Ebert who voiced their support. Day-Lewis protrays Chrissy as in the book as being unsympathetic, difficult, twisted, but yet most importantly giving & enthuastic about his love to draw pictures.

My Left Foot, unfortunely didn't impress me much outside the acting, the editing can be lumpy, shalllow & in some cases, tedious dealing with every aspect of his life, his anger tentures; his life growing up; the focus on his painting. What i also noticed is the desire for the story to become tangled, between when he has just published his book & his previous life.

My Left Foot, also had a well-written score, but nothing standing or rememberable, rather forgotten nowadays, unless you are familiar with the film.

The truth is, despite the fact there is a lack of films dealing with disability straight on the target, My Left Foot hasn't stood the test of time very well with the low budget it was produced with. My Left Foot has a very 80s feel of a typical production made during this period of the long term Conservative grip of Britain, which was narrow, straining, dictating & a decline of the Industrial age of Coal Mines & Steel Pits, which were effectively wiped out by 1992, but continue to exist in few numbers.

If you have never seen My Left Foot, watch it only once, for the performances, but don't expect to be enthrallled by it, if this material is not your cup of tea.

I suggest that if you want to see a disability-related film, with sadness & joy, please watch Rain Man.

MY LEFT GOOD (Sorry) - By: , 17 Sep 2004
Daniel Day Lewis is one of the greatest actors ever! & this proves it. He is also supported with a stellar cast who never look out of depth. Copled with a story so up lifting & heart warming you will laugh, cry & maybe feel better about yourself (I did). when I bought this I had not seen the film for about 10 years but it never lost it's magic. Just buy it then you can leave a review next to me, telling every one else how great this film is.
Daniel Day Lewis in cracking form. - By: , 27 Mar 2004
True stories, or films based on true stories are rarely the stuff of Oscars. Allto often they get bypassed by production money, for the lack of stunts & hyper realities; thus if made tend to be b-movies, or acted by a cast of supermodels who lack credability. To find such a moving story about Christy Brown, who overcomes his cerebal palsy,is a little gem, watch this if only for Daniel Day Lewis's amazing performance, which is on a par with John Mills's transformation.
