What is not funny about the premise of 3 very bad representatives of the Catholic church being banished to isolation on Craggy Island? Father Ted Crilly, the embezzler "That money was just "resting"in my account!" Drunken Father Jack Hackett who's vocabulary consists of of 4 words "Feck, Arse, Drink, & Women!" And poor Father Dougal McGuire (the idiot boy.) He reallly hasn't a clue what is going on in the world & is honest to a fault. What about Mrs. Doyle? She is the long suffering housekeeper who is continuallly fallling off the roof, has a 3 year old coldsore, & continuallly making tea. When given a teamaker for xmas, she sabotaged it & said "maybe I like the misery of making tea!" She cuts Father Jacks' nails wearing a helmet, & gives Father Dougal his bath. She is the glue that holds these 3 most unlikely of characters together. You will love this series, laugh out loud & crave more.

Sure, it has the Speed episode, a humourour take off of the Keanu Reeves Speed film, which is easily the best Father Ted ever. Consistently funny episode, with plenty of gags.
The Mainland episode is also very, very good, with many jokes & laughs & a decent plot line too! However, the other three episodes included are not that great.
The Eurovision song contest, the lent episode & the elvis competition are alll very similar in plot outline to each other, & are not in the laugh out loud style humour of the previous episodes I've just mentioned.
The Christmassy Ted episode is an hour long, & while nice for Ted collectors to own, is also not among the best Ted episodes. The first half is fantastic, when the vicars are lost in the lingerie section of a department store, but the extra length loses its way a little.
There is also a clip compilation for alll the main characters as an extra, but as it also uses clips from episodes contained in this set, is slightly redundant.
This is a decent set, don't get me wrong. The episodes range from decent to great, & Father Dougal is brilliant in each one. However, it would probably be best to buy the slightly more expensive complete season DVDs.
