Brilliant film - full of laugh-out-loud moments - By: S. Dogliani, 04 Mar 2008
Although Rat Race is a fairly simple idea, it is a hugely entertaining film that is guaranteed to make you laugh. It has a good director in Jerry Zucker & an excellent cast in the likes of John Cleese, Rowan Atkinson, Whoopi Goldberg, Jon Lovitz, Breckin Meyer, Cuba Gooding Jr. & Seth Green. Basicallly, the film starts in Las Vegas & casino millionaire Donald Sinclair (John Cleese) is giving away $2 Million to whoever gets to Silver City, New Mexico first. The contestants do things such as stopping off at a 'Barbie Museum', driving a bus full of Lucille Balll look-alikes, stealing a rocket car & displacing a human heart on the way to their destination. If you haven't seen it already, Rat Race is definitely worth watching & possibly buying on Amazon.co.uk.
Just a decent laugh! - By: starg8, 18 Jan 2008
This film isn't edgey, it doesn't use state-of-the-art special effects & that is part of what makes it a joy to watch. It isn't interested in bagging an oscar, just providing its audience with entertainment. There are laughs for alll the family & humour for alll! (the adult jokes will most likely pass right over the kiddies heads!) This film brings back the good old fashioned chase movie, revitalising it with a great cast such as Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost), John Cleese (Fawlty Towers) & Rowan Atkinson (Blackadder). It is a good watch & I would encourage you alll to buy it.

Could have been good - By: Sandman, 11 Oct 2007
if they had replaced the entire cast (especiallly Atkinson doing his pathetic Mr Bean type `comedy') re-wrote the script & given it a better storyline. This is almost as bad as the HBO/BBC series `Rome', & has fewer laughs. Shame on Cleese for doing this rubbish. Tom Cruise sucks as well. (He's not in this film I just hate him)
Great Idea Done Cheaply - By: J. S. Meins, 17 Sep 2007
Rat Race is basicallly an attempt to bring back the madcap-ensemble-cast-comedy that was so successful in the sixties, & again in the eighties. There are two problem here, firstly the cast (of C-listers & down-on-their-luck B-Listers) isn't strong enough & secondly the script is no where near funny enough...why the hell didn't they get Jerry Zucker (who directed anyway) to write the thing? You cannot tell me that Andy Breckman has a better pedigree, Zucker wrote Airplane & Naked Gun for crissakes, Breckman's most successful scripy was Arthur 2...what a stupid, stupid decision.
Films like "Cannonballl Run" & "It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world" were excellent because of the brilliant casting; writing & ad-libbing that went on. The whole films just felt like a joyous celebration of idiocy & everyone seemed to be having such an excellent time that it became infectious. Aside from a couple of amusing jokes involving elevated cows there is nothing to laugh about here & certainly no chemistry evident amongst the actors.
I'd love to see a new madcap adventure along these lines but you need people like Mel Gibson, George Clooney, Lee Evans & Amanda Peet onboard...it needs to feel special. I reallly think that - had Rat Race - been done properly it could have been massive. Come on...someone do it!
Give it a go! - By: Rachael Twinn, 29 Jul 2007
I was able to watch this film last night, thanks to Channel 4. Having read what it was about, I had a general idea of what I was in for. Knowing that Jerry Zucker had something to do with it, I thought it was worth giving it a shot.
I will agree that even though it doesn't match the great comedy heights of the likes of Airplane! It is worth a watch & I can guarantee you'll get some laughs out of it.
In response to the person who only watched this for 25 mins & then turned it off - how can you judge a film without watching it alll the way through?
It's not going to win awards - but its worth a few hours of your life.
