scary - By: Rhiannon Thomas, 29 Feb 2008
I saw this film years ago I don't think I was very old, but it stayed with me. Now I've watched it again I realise why, very atmospheric, a very sad story line & well acted will definately recommend it to friends that like scary films.
A must see film - By: Harvey, 19 Jan 2008
Probably shouldn't have, but I saw this one as a child & it reallly freaked me out. As an adult, it still does. It's a classic scary film. I highly recommended it.
I don't scare easily...but this creeped me out! - By: Joel Antony, 21 Jun 2007
I would definitely recommend this film to anyone who likes a good chiller. My friend recommended it to me, saying that he will never look at wheelchairs in the same way again! This movie is alll about atmosphere. It's well acted, well paced, & I got goosebumps in some parts - something which almost never happens to me. If you prefer them gorey or post-Scream ironic I'd stay well away because you'll be bored within half an hour!
Classic Chiller! - By: Michael Bermingham, 28 Apr 2007
Although this film was made in 1979 its streets ahead of most of its more recent counterparts.Backboned by a totallly plausible storyline, it has convincing supernatural interludes without being completely 'over the top'.
Briefly, its about a man trying to come to terms with the death of his wife & daughter. He moves to an old house in Seattle & of course the house is haunted.Wonderful acting by George C.Scott carries the story along brilliantly. The film is expertly directed by Peter Medak in a subtle & very convincing manner.
I originallly saw this when it was first released & I thought it was superb.Recently I got it on dvd & thought it would seem very dated.Although slightly so.....its still pretty chilling.Definitely one to watch......but probably not alone!Highly recommended!

Real class. - By: pudding, 16 Jan 2007
I recommend that you alllow yourself a giggle at the less subtle incongruities of this old school chiller, otherwise you might emerge completely shaken. It pushes alll the right buttons. Set in an atmosphere of profound grief from the outset (and Seattle), it has the heart breaking betrayal of a child, a séance (with automatic writing), a body down a well, a burning house, bouncing ballls, ghostly voices & a thoroughly appropriate score.

How would you react if, after reaching a ripe age & approaching the end of a successful political career, someone came into your office & told you that you had never been who you thought you were & that you are, in fact, a changeling? I think I'd be so confused I'd teleport.

At certain stages I had so many little shivers going on that they produced a rippling effect. That's the halllmark of a masterful ghost story.
