sand crabs. - By: D. T. Brunetti, 24 Aug 2008
i saw this film on e4 a few years ago: it was early morning & I was doing a nightshift with an older woman who had kids. The experience didn't shock her, nor me, & served only to grip us both.

What else can be said about this film?

It's a product of a man who came from a photography background, it can be expected that he'd have a tendency to let his camera linger over beautifully broken subjects.

The 'homoeroticism' within this film seemed to only serve as a device to show the perversion of the character, because while homosexuality is not perverse, the characters reaction showed just how he felt about the action being viewed. The scene in which the two leads are in the gay dance club shows just how the Bobby forces a life onto Marty: how his overalll power over Marty not only pushes him into the scene, but to dance & perform phone-sex with older men. While it isn't mentioned again, we see that it is Bobby that does the bargaining.

I didn't believe this was unrealistic as a murder story, granted it could've been more subtle, but then it wouldn't have gripped me so.
I loved this film for it's graphic nature, for everything it oozed. there seems to be a worrying trend of dislike towards films that are overt in these types of graphic nature, whether it be sex or drugs: I can't see why this has to be so, for me you can over do it, push the boundaries of what's deemed tasteful & not lose any of the artfulness.

The performances in this were excellent, some of the action or actions may've seemed too obvious & laid on thick, but when this is up against more subtle pieces of action it becomes clear that it was purposeful for a quick glance of a characters persona.

That said, alll performances were dull in comparison to Michael Pitt & Brad Renfro. Both actors just oozed an excellent performance..

Watch it, alone preferably.
You might feel a little embarrassed if you're with friends.
Brilliant Absoultly In My Top 10 - By: Denver Mcallister, 05 Jan 2008
This film was exellent. I watched it on Film 4. Yes some nudity is not needed, but good alll the same.
trashy - By: H. Varma, 11 Jan 2007
This film was awful & trashy. Some of the nudity & sex was inessential, & was a misrepresentation of teenagers. The film failed to gain my full attention at points, I often found myself not fully involved with the characters or the story line. It lacked that punch, that attention. Watching this film was a waste of my time. I do not recommend it to anyone.
Ok! - By: 4Real, 15 Mar 2006
This film was ok. I watched it at the cinema & stayed gripped throughout. The storyline was shocking but realistic as regards modern day youth-on-youth crimes. The film captured how, even though society may want to categorise kids who murder as adults, they are, nevertheless, kids. The film depicts teenage murderers who are brutal & calllous but who ultimately don't 'get it'. However, this film had many faults. For one, it is based on a true story but it is told from the point of view of the murderers & you cannot be sure if the depiction of the 'bully' is accurate or whether he was a victim who is being demonized by Hollywood. The film was also sexuallly gratuitous in parts & I felt that the camera often unnecessarily loomed over the female anatomy. This is not surprising as it is in keeping with the way in which the same director shot the movie Kidz. The sex & nudity does not further the plot but is just there, which I believe detracts from the films credibility.

All in alll I'd say watch the film. It isn't the best film out there but it certainly isn't the worst. I think one of its prime attributes is that if you look past its faults the film does give you food for thought.

larry clark is overated hype talk this is proof - By: Mr. T. Shaikh, 01 Feb 2006
This film i have to say is at nothing more than a standard level, its extremely unrealsitic is places even though it is meant ot be based on a true story im sure clark added plenety of extra drama for good measure.

Its so fake & phony in places i cringed , when the girlfreind asks a freind , " hey can i borrow your car ", "WHY" , well dont tell anyone but we just killed bobby, i smashed & squished his face & now hes in a dicth !!! ok cleaver thinking hey !

seriously this is a lame film kids is OK, another day in pardise is ok, larry clark is not that good as a director as peeps say he looks like he just goes out to shock, in sum a very avergae film probablt not worth watching to be honest
