mclintock - By: jeannie, 06 Jul 2006
I have now purchased two different copies of Mclintock. This Wayne/Ohara film is a gem of a comedy. However please dont be tempted to buy the DVD. I have the original VHS release & believe me this old, well worn & well used video shows alot better than the DVD versions on the market. I thought a had originallly bought a pirate movie the copy was that bad. Save yourself the time of returning the DVD & dont bother.
A NEW MCLINTOCK - By: Brian Nielsen, 26 Nov 2005
This new edition from Batjak is a treat, Perfect picture & sound Q. (not like some of the bad copys, you see fore sale )
Story is the same, a ligth western comedy not at-alll in the same class as Rio Bravo, The Searchers & Hondo, but still a wayne western.
This new edition is a "most-have" for alll Wayne & O´Hara fan´s.
Great film; dreadful DVD quality - By: Dr. M. Turner, 01 Feb 2005
A word of warning for those about to buy 'McLintock' from the John Wayne collection. The film itself is excellent & portrays once more the special Wayne/O'Hara screen magic(for further insights read Maureen O'Hara's recent autobiography). However, the film is ruined by the abysmal quality of the DVD itself. The opening credits are so blurred as to be alll but indecipherable & some passages of the film look as though they have been recorded on a home video camera. It is quite disgraceful to foist such a shoddy product onto the open market & the distributors should be ashamed of themselves. DON'T BUY IT.
Love in the Country - By: B. Chandler, 26 Apr 2004
The star system is for the movie not the media witch can be explainedhere. So any review with fewer stars implies that the movie is not topnotch. If you think the DVD is bad wait until you get the “Goodtimes HomeVideo” VHS version. It is dark & cut weird & missing some of theperiphery. There are better commercial VHS tape versions available. However the Good times people are the ones that use the longest playingmode & aim a camera at the TV set. The tape is just enough for themovie. They make great covers. The one star is for this product.
George Washington McLintock (John Wayne) is one of the early cattlementhat helped tame the west. He has a report with the Indians & owns mostof the town. Farmers who were given government land are invading thetown. He hires a young widow as a cook. Home from the state capital ishis separated wife, Katherine (Maureen O’Hara) & daughter (a youngStefanie Powers). There is an interesting mix of relationships andpolitics. Most of alll it is down right funny.
The movie its self is top notch FIVE STAR. John Wayne used most of hisstandard crew & that formula plot that makes his movies great. The mudfight is one of the best parts they imported the mud for the scene. SeeJohn & Maureen again in The Quiet Man (1952) ASIN: 6302320496.
Excellent Film. DON'T BUY THE DVD! - By: , 24 Sep 2003
'McLintock' is one of John Wayne's funniest films. It is on a par with 'The Quiet Man'. It is also one of my favourite films. The comments that follow in no way reflect on the film itself. My major gripe is just how hacked about & poor the quality of this DVD is. There is at least 30 minutes missing from this DVD, the colour looks like the contrast is going from one end of the spectrum to the other & the sound is inconsistent. Watching this film on the DVD's that are currently available will just give you a migraine (not to mention a tin ear). The DVD editions to avoid are the ones issued by 'Delta, LaserLight, GoodTimes, & RSS Pictures'. My advice is to either go for the VHS edition which is authorised by the John Wayne Estate or wait for an authorised DVD version.
