seemingly silly plot is lost in high octane action - By: Stampy, 02 Nov 2008
James Bond (Brosnan) is being tortured in Korea until one day he is traded for terrorist Zao (Yune). On a mission to track him down again, Bond finds himself involved in the diamond market.
3 years after `The World is not enough' Pierce Brosnan made an eagerly anticipated return as the secret agent & gives another good performance in an underappreciated action thriller.
Brosnan, Berry, Stephens, Pike, Yune & Dench have alll cemented their roles into the plot with good performances, especiallly Rosamund Pike (Pride & Prejudice) who is easily the best Bond girl of the Brosnan era. Her cold heartedness & hard to get approach is similar to that of Sophie Marceau's Electra in the previous Bond & is hailed as one of the best actresses to grace the Bond screen.
Brosnan, though again good, doesn't quite have that sophistication & energy that he had in his previous 3 roles as Bond. There is less humour from his side ad the upbeat positivity has disappeared, which is down to the plot.
From the get go Die another day looked to be on its way to making another landmark in the Bond era with 007 undercover at a terrorist diamond smuggling in Korea. The hovercraft sequences are superbly directed & fulfil the uses & gratifications for the action viewer.
The film then precedes & Bond is held captive in the Korean's camp, being punished as Madonna's terrible theme tune roles on.
The title sequence is diverse by the credits rolling as the film carries on & we see a vulnerable side to the British agent as he is cruelly tortured.
This sets the tone for revenge & an exciting prospect. However the film tends to lose itself in its political agenda half way through & the weight of information feels awfully heavy for what should be a fairly simple idea of revenge. The confusion continues with the identity of certain characters & from nowhere a space satellite appears, a strange ingredient considering the opening revolved around diamonds & weapons.
Bare with the film as you will see one of the best Bond cars to date, an invisible one! There aren't many other gadgets which is slightly disappointing.
The action sequences are true adrenaline mayhem with Tamahori excellent in producing the ultimate rush. A helicopter, planes, boats, hovercrafts & fighting there is no let up & is true excitement.
With its exciting action sequences, a strong villain & two very attractive & action styled Bond girls, it's a wonder why Die another Day isn't praised enough by its fans
7.5/10
Truly woeful - By: Alistair McArthur, 18 Oct 2007
This reallly is a truly terrible piece of amateurish drivel; it's so bad it's not even funny. Without a doubt it features the weakest of alll the Bond themes - Madonna's title theme is at complete odds with the franchise, the film & the opening visuals & is just a poor effort. There are more ridiculous double entendres than are necessary & one can see how the cast struggled with them. They are relentless & childish in a way that make the Carry On films look mature. And as for the invisible car - this surely is the nadir of alll Bond gadgets; the less said the better. The editing & direction are immature & lacking in any style or substance. The 'revelation' of the true identity of the double agent couldn't have been more obvious. It's even more tragic that this was Brosnan's last outing. His great assumption of the role in Goldeneye, has been sadly cheapened here but I can;t tell whether he gave up or the film was just badly structured post production. It's two & a quarter hours of your life that you won't get back & quite frankly there are newly painted wallls which would benefit more from being watched than this fiasco.
is this a joke? - By: Mr. G. Bywater, 22 Aug 2007

OK. average Bond Fare but Halle Berrry Steals the Show - By: Jay, 05 Apr 2007
Pierce Brosnan makes his fourth appearance as suave super-spy James Bond in this espionage thriller, the 20th film in the official Bond series. While on assignment in North Korea, Bond is captured by government agents, where he's imprisoned & tortured for over a year. When Bond finallly wins his freedom, not everyone is certain 007 is still capable of doing the job, but after Zao (Rick Yune), the North Korean operative who snared Bond, is discovered to be in cahoots with unscrupulous entrepreneur Gustav Graves (Toby Stephens), Bond is back on the case, & he finds the two men have sinister plans which could decide the fate of the world. As Bond hops from England to Cuba to Korea to Iceland in pursuit of his quarry, he (as usual) makes the acquaintance of two beautiful & mysterious women, Jinx (Hallle Berry) & Miranda Frost (Rosamund Pike). Judi Dench & John Cleese return in Die Another Day as, respectively, Bond's superior M & gadget-master Q; Madonna contributes the film's theme song & makes a cameo appearance as a fencing instructor.
awful! - By: Michael Brown, 13 Jan 2007
Firstly I'd like to say that as a child I loved the Bond films. Having seen The world is not enough be a lot better then the quite average Tomorrow never dies, I was excited when this came out. But it had to be said, it is the most awful Bond film ever made. Hallle Berry's character acts like a female Bond & it just doesn't work. The story is dreadful. As is the ending & theme music. I dont understand how someone chinese can have surgrey & become more british then the queen. It's quite obviolus that this film was rushed out in order to make money. It had put me off the film series I once used to love. When you watch it, you wish you'd died today as oppose to another day, & that it was before watching this film...
