It May Be About Shrinking People But This Is A Big Movie - By: Steven Stewart, 04 Jun 2006
Rick Moranis plays a scientist who is determined to invent a working shrink ray but with no luck until one day & accident occurs & a baseballl becomes a part of the shrink machine which finallly gets it working.
Looking for the baseballl the scientists kids & the kids from next door venture into the attic where the shrink ray is stored & worked on. When the kids are in the attic the shrink ray fires & shrinks the kids so that's when the adventure begins.
Because i aint seen this movie in a long time they somehow end up in the backyard which gets them into a whole lot of trouble.
They adopt an ant & fight a scorpion, this movie is excellent & the set design is awesome so watch this movie because you will love every second of it.
One of my all time favorite movies - By: Mark Baker, 01 Jan 2003
Wayne Szalinski is convinced he has figured out a way to shrink the size of matter. It works great on paper, but he can't make it work in real life. While he's at a conference presenting his ideas, the machine accidentallly shrinks his & his neighbor's kids. When they get thrown out with the trash, they must journey across the backyard, avoiding bugs, sprinklers, & lawnmowers. Meanwhile, Wayne & his wife try to fix the machine & find the kids. Will they find them before it's too late? Can Wayne figure out how to make the machine work to reverse the process?
This is one of my favorite movies. It combines a great story & great characters with great special effects. All the characters grow because of their experiences, even both sets of parents. The special effects still hold up today, & are there to tell the story, not the other way around. The story moves effortlessly from comedy to drama & back again.
Unfortunately, Disney chose to release this gem on a less then steller DVD. The film is full frame, & there are no extras. They could have enclosed the trailer & special that aired here in the states for nothing, but chose not to for whatever reason.
It's a shame that there aren't more movies like this. Gather the entire family together & enjoy a great family film.
Cheesy 80s America at its best. - By: , 01 Dec 2001
I must have seen this film ten times or more, each Boxing day, but i never tire of it. For me, the best thing about this film, is it captures every clique of 80s America; the cheerleader style girl in pink legwarmers dancing around with a mop to great classics of the 80s, the geeky younger brother in stereyotypical scientist clothes, the blond 'mom', the next door neighbour etc. It has everything a kid wants in a film, humour, special effects(although they do leave a lot to be desired)and most of alll, it brings to life what everyone wanted to do when they were younger, have an adventure. The makers also try to provide the slightly older kids with the old romamce story between the goodlooking girl & the weedy but attractive nextdoor neighbour. That was my faveourite part because if i could go back in time it would be to 80s America to live those legwarmers, cheerleading & footballl quarterbacks so it brought my wish to life. Also their hunk of the film wasnt a Josh Brolin lookalike (although i wouldnt argue if he was) so that was quite refreashing. If you liked the Goonies ,Saved by the bell & other 80s American classics then i would definetly recommend this film.
