Beyond Imagination - By: Mr. D. J. Fitzsimons, 12 Jul 2008
A superb film...reallly, reallly great. A clever take on the story, well written, well acted, great sets & costumes, imaginative and... well...I could go on & on! I was a bit apprehensive at first, thinking that it would be another fairy-tale remake by numbers, but decided to give it a go because I love The Henson Company. I dont think i've ever been so gripped by a film. The acting is top notch alll the way through, partly thanks to a strong star cast. Matthew Modine gives a strong performance as Jack, faultless throughout. Mia Sara plays Ondine (Jack's love interest) with emotion & depth. Other names to add to the list are Vanessa Regrave, Daryl Hannah, Jon Voight, Richard Attenborough, Bill Barretta (who has done tons of stuff with the Henson Company) & James Corden (from Gavin & Stacey) All of whom are equallly strong. There's so much more I could say, but I think you should watch it for yourself... in fact you'll be doing yourself an injustice if you don't watch it! Last words... I defy anyone not to feel their heart wrenching when Thunderfell fallls. Buy....Now....!
Ridiculous story and far too long... - By: Scottish Lassie, 08 Mar 2007
I will keep this review short, as I haven't much to say bout this film other then the story was ridiculous, going alll over the place & failing to answer some important questions. It also went on for far too long, was boring, had no real action, & was totallly pointless. My regret? Forcing myself to watch the whole film, as I kept on saying to myself "it will get good soon!", but it didn't...
So my advice would be to avoid this film, & that's coming from a massive Jim Henson film/works fan. Honestly, it is bad. If you do watch it, please don't let this be a reflection on the rest of Henson's works, which are brilliant!
The Magic lives on - By: , 12 Jan 2004
A truly fantastic story - & it's wonderful to see the use of pagan characters as well.
Gorgeous & clever story, truly spellbinding, even for an adult. I would like to have seen more creature shop animatronics, but i thought the meld of CGI & traditional was very good.
Put this with the Labyrinth as an alll time favourite film. More please
Fairy Tales? - By: , 02 Nov 2003
Well most people might be put of by the idea that this is just a retelling of the Jack & the Beanstalk story, but in reality it is so much more. It is one the most entertaining programs i've seen for ages.
