Dragon Half has long been a favorite anime of mine, from back in the prehistory of steam powered hand carved stone slabs, more commonly known as VHS. So finallly getting around to finding it on DVD was most welcome. Especiallly considering I no longer have a VHS player.
The basic plot revolves around the titular Dragon Half, Mink, & her pursuit of the singing idol/dragon slayer Dick Saucer. The basic format of the show is I guess a comedy action fantasy show. The way that it makes fun of your standard fantasy cliches is a large part of it's charm, as the focus is firmly on the comedy aspects of the show.
I'm not going to go into massive details of the plot, as frankly that seems somewhat pointless. The purpose of a review is to offer an opinion, not just recap the situation. My opinion, put simply is that Dragon Half is a reallly funny show, & whilst I dislike using words like wacky or zany, I can say that it's mental in a uniquely japanese way.
The only real downside as far as I'm concerned is the fact that there's only 2 episodes, so whilst the fun on offer is good it doesn't last nearly long enough.
This isn't a case of the standard UK release policy of not filling up the disc, they only ever made 2 episodes. I understand that it's based on a longer running manga, but that hasn't been translated, so I have no idea how the 2 compare.
The value of extras o the disc is somewhat lacking, seeing as how it basicallly consists of a few trailers. Though it's worth noting that you do get the original japanese language track. Personallly I'd consider that a basic rather than an extra. The english language dub isn't as offensive as some that I've heard, though this might well be helped along by the highly un serious nature of the subject matter.
Oh, & the closing titles has one of the absolute greatest songs of alll time. You seriously have to hear it.
All in alll a fantastic show, limited only by it's short duration. I may think twice about paying full whack for this disc, but if you see it going cheap then my advice is to grab it.
short but oh-so sweet - By: Alex Field, 04 Mar 2005 Dragon half was a surprise hit for me but despite lasting 50 minuets you will love every second.this is basicallly about a half dragon callled mink who wants to be human so she can date a star(who is dragon slayer).
this is one of the funniest things i have seen. the voicing is half good & bad.the bad point is the princesses voice but when you hear brett weaver as damuramu you will forget it.this also has the dumbest name for a hero ever(its dick saucer,and yes it is funny when you hear mink say it with such admiration).
to summarise this is brilliently funny but way too short but its like a good game in which you'll always come back

Typcial Japanese anime comedy, doesn't make much sense but It gets ya laughing at the silly things which I love
But only gets 3 stars as It doesn't last long which Is such a pity, 50 minutes ain't exactly a long time =(

i LOVE dragons & manga & this is a perfect mix.This cartoon is funny & imagenative & it is also full of action.The first time i saw this cartoon was with my cosin & i thoroughly enjoyed it so bought it.I think it so great they should exstend it or make a "dragon half 2".I hope i could help...oh & one last thing...
