generally not funny and moves too quickly from one scene to another - By: dan the fan, 13 Jul 2008
Big Trouble was a fast moving film that left a credible storyline somewhere behind in the distance but it had a few very funny moments in it.It was impossible to get to like or dislike any of the characters because they alll seemed to interact so shalllowly & surreallly.
Tim Allen has starred in a much funnier & involving film than this about a man who takes on a bully at work - Joe Somebody.Buy that instead.
As seen on the Discovery channel - By: B. Chandler, 13 Jan 2008
This star packed movie is non stop action. You will not find one cliché or un-original thought in this movie. There is no way to anticipate the plot.
Actuallly it is like reading a Dave Berry novel; that could be because the story was based on one. As with alll his works it starts off reasonable builds up to incredulous & then over the top. You are carried along with out even realizing it.
The story starts off with many overlapping threads. We have a young hit man from school out to get a school girl alll wet. There is an unscrupulous character (Stanley Ticci) with a graphic (close your eyes) toe (belonging to Sofía Vergara) fetish. The mother (Rene Russo) goes down of the would-be hit man. The television is shot. Nina meets her maker Puggy. The dog finds aromas. Need I say more?
O.K. there is a frog, goats, & a portable garbage disposal.
On a deeper level it is about families & trust. But don't mind that now just sit back & have some fun
Good fun, if a little too frantic.... - By: Dino Amore', 25 May 2006
Having read the original Dan Barry novel, which is superb & highly recommended, I had high hopes for this, considering an excellent cast & director. Although I enjoyed the film, I was left feeling it could have been better. Parts of the book are left out, good ones at that, which seems a little strange when the running time is just about 1 hour 20 mins. Extra time could have been used to flesh out the characters, who to be honest, are pretty much blank canvases to hang plot points on.
Having said that, its an enjoyable, turn your brain off film, that has kept the spirit of Dan Barry's book, if not the heart & soul. Nice turns from most of the cast. Final verdict - rent, don't buy.
Entertaining if sometimes a bit absurd - By: Tim Houghton, 06 Oct 2004
I've seen Big Troubles several times now & put it on when I want to watch something that's amusing without too much thought required. The pace, one-liners & cast of characters is as rich as you'd expect from Hollywood. I think it helps that I'm a bit of a Tim Allen fan, although Stanley Tucci is the star of the film when it comes to a totallly over the top crook. The foot fetish scene is so ucky it's brilliant. The two assassins from Chicago hilarious in their utter disdain for the state of Florida. I find the film funny without being too silly (a common complaint for other hollywood parodies) & although not a classic it's an entertaining way to spend 1 hour & 20 minutes.
Excellant but not developed - By: Hannah Probert, 22 Jan 2004
This is an excellant film, which was absolutely hilarious. This is the sort of film for you if you like madcap comedy like Rat Race or Fawlty Towers. Despite this, the film seemed a little to short & perhaps slightly unfinished.
