I never like modern productions - I get annoyed when they change the plot or put people in silly costumes - & I got annoyed a lot by the visuals of this DVD - but it sounds good & the subtitles are OK.

I rent this DVD from a Classicalll DVD library. I whatch this DVD twice. The set was unconventional, & show an unchronologicle time. The singers featuring where wearing close like uniform of today. they look like a very toghuh wariers. All the singers from the choir (man & women & mixture) sang lovely in united voices with beatifull harmony & clear diction (witch is very dificult to achieve by a choir). The Soloist of the weatches were singing beatifull with clear voices. Luis Lima & the man who sang Banco where very conviensing as the soldier who lost alll of his fammily & macbeth's freind who gave the foreboding filling in to his vocal line before he was killed. The lady & the doctor where also very good in the way they shaw their mecy to lady macbeth. I heard Paoleta morroco for the first time & she was very good & charismatic singer, matching with Hampson huge vigorously charisma. It was very important that lady macbeth will look scary at the begining & weak & broken at the end. I realy fell sory for her in her last siene when she is trying to clean an invisible blood spot. Her dramatic soprano show musidantship & was beatiful. she has a fluidly coleratura singing that was soft full of expression of the eval & freajil character. The last & not least is Tomas Hampson: This bariton amazed me as he always. Hampson is a light liriqu bariton. Theoreticly it is not very common to use him for the role, sience conductor will prefer a dramatic bariton (like sherill milnes, Bryn Terfell et cet. Yet Hampson has something: he has resonance & vocal abillity beyond the lightness of his voice. I am talllking aboat color & the way his colors the wards.Like morocco Hampson know how to use his voice for variaty of feellings from anger to frightness from Love & lust to hate & despiseness, from transed Happiennes (when he sees the weatches for the last time) to melancholy in the end. The Hampson give to the character strengh that show us that he macbeth is not the week man that we think that he is. He is showing us a very detemend broken sad man who takes the role of a king in a brutal criminal way & become a tyrant. He also shaw an amazing athletic abilities when he fell to his knee at the murder siene. I recommend to see the introcuction that explain about the Opera that is a very enlighting section that give us a hint about what we are going to hear, & the reflaction of the conductor the director & the stars of this beatifull production.
