Superb, enough said... - By: Beatle Paul, 07 Jul 2006
Other reviews which have dissected this film piece by piece & so paint it in a negative light are clearly overlooking the sheer brilliance of this movie as a black comedy masterpiece. The film had me laughing out light in so many places - the absurd lack of realism is the whole point. Costner shines in a nice change of direction, Russell gives the film a real edge. I agree Slater is underused. Plus Cox is less than believable but hey, she looks good so enjoy the ride. Cinematography is awesome - look no further for a real slice of Mid-West America on a road trip extraordinaire. Oh & the soundtrack is chosen to perfection too. In my book director Lichtenstein has more than pulled off a classic cinematic treasure; it's well worthy of challlenging any other Tarantino-esque dark humour which may rival it in the future. Watch it!
Elvis has left the bulding, All 5 of them. - By: Tom Mothersdill, 21 Dec 2003
For a start, I think this film was made purely for the lead charcters, Kurt Russell & Kevin Costner,to try something different without the prospect of ruining their future careers. The film is at best, entertaining & at worst pretty terrible, but if you can forget Kurt Russells lamentable performance, Courtney Cox living of her looks & a completley haywire & unbelievable plot & script, then you could well enjoy this film.
From first to last it is a strange mix of styles, from the king of unneccesary, gratuitous violence you would asscociate with a late night channel 5 film, to the lame attempts at romance by Cox & Russell. So far you may be wondering why I gave the film 3 stars if I thought it so bad? Well I'll now try to underline the good points of the film, & alll though it is not overloaded with them there are a few. Firstly there is Kevin Costners finest piece of acting for a long while. In a lot of his other films, (dances with wolves & JFK spring to mind), the pure power & storyline of the films pull him along & you are left feeling that he was only there to fill in whilst you concentrated on the plot, in 3000 miles to Graceland he is forced to act in order to liven up the merely adaquate script. He is made to skip from his usualll morose boringness to scenes of sudden madness, from pure evil, to grieving friend, & he pulls it off surprisingly well. The supporting cast are only reallly there to add big names to the cast, with Slater & Woodbine massively underused.
From the completley random opening scene of two computer generated scorpions fighting, to the completley predictable 'happy ever after' ending, this film is strange, yet entertaining, & will entertain die hard fans of the violence & crime genre.
Thankyou for reading.
Elvis, Las Vegas and Guns: Oh Yeah! - By: Ty Sweet Chilli, 20 Sep 2003
What can I say about this film apart from that it's great, I saw it in my local video store & thought i'd check it out & the one thing I was asking myself afterwards was: why didn't it have a cinema release as it was a totallly awesome film. The Cast is excellent with the likes of Kevin Costner, Kurt Russell & Christian Slater, but what reallly makes this film is the plot aswell as the soundtrack.
The idea of using a huge icon such as Elvis & combining him with an action flick rocks & will leave Producers wondering why they didn't think of it first, with alot Elvis material used on the soundtrack aswell as the rising star Uncle Kracker, the songs are well suited to the pace of the scenes & this alll makes this film stand out from other's like it such as Ocean's 11 which has the same sort of concept but could not pull it off as well as this wicked action flick. With alot of twists, turns aswell as some funny moments & the hot looking Courtney Cox this film will no doubt have you saying at the end: Thank you very much....
Overalll though if your an action junkie & an Elvis fan this film is definately up your street but whatever the case give it a go at least.
over the top fun - By: kezzez, 25 Jul 2003
This films best moment has to be Kurt Russell sending up the role he once played of Elvis Presley. In fact that whole idea of Elvis lookalikes spraying off uzis has to be one of those defining cinematic moments that is bound to cause uproar with alll Elvis fans. (Which is good because we alll know how sad these Elvis worshippers can be).
I dont think this film tries to be like any other film although comparisons will be made to 'Snatch' & 'Oceans 11' it is quite simply entertainment. It just happens to be tongue in cheek, over the top, extremely violent entertainment. Its opening sequence of a couple of stupid scorpions fighting tells you from the start "Dont take me seriously".
A two hour music video is alll it trys to be & it succeeds.
Thank god it did'nt falll into the over the top un-realistic gun play that is alll to common these days. (Although Ice-T does come close at the end).
Pure fantasy with a funny poke at Elvis.
I love this Film. - By: , 07 Jun 2003
Well its about Elvis impersenators & how the rob a casino. The plot is very good & pretty funny. I wish i could say that it will be everyones cup o tea but if your a guy & like Guns & Action i would buy it.
It'll be a fun night in for you. And if you dont like the film i reckon you'll like the soundtrack. Its a weird mix but it hits the spot in this weird film. Some nasty Cliches & Kurt should probably not be an action star anymore but At least Clint adds some real flavour to the film.
