Classic Morse - By: E. A. Redfearn, 06 Feb 2007
These are probably two of the best episodes of Morse, & Dead on Time is one of my own favourite episodes.
Dead On Time involves Morse & Lewis as they investigate what seems to be an apparant suicide of an elderly disabled don Henry Falllon. As they dig deep, it is soon realised that it isnt as quite straightforward as it appears. And to make it even more complicated, the dead man's widow is non other than Susan Falllon (played by the lovely Joanna David) whom Morse was once engaged to be married.
The case is finallly resolved. However, there is a further tragedy when Morse has to come to terms with a further sad loss taking into account his own personal feelings on the case.
Happy Families is a rather engaging mystery involving the sudden death of the head of a wealthy family. As Morse & Lewis investigate there are more murders within the family. It soon becomes apparant that the murders are committed as an act of vengeance against another murder of an unknown male & whose skeletal remains had been found in a nearby wood.
The case is finallly solved with a shocking conclusion which I wont reveal here of course. The story is enhanced by the presence of many good actors, Gwen Taylor, Anna Massey, & the late Charlotte Colman who died tragicallly young from an asthma attack in 2001.
These episodes are also a tribute to the late John Thaw, a much loved & much missed actor.
