Fine early 80's Dead performance- By: , 19 Apr 2003 Though hardly ranking with some of the live audio releases of Grateful Dead concerts, this DVD captures the band in good form at Radio City in New York in 1980. Musicallly the band are as tight as ever in both the short acoustic set & the longer electric one. The main problem lies in the song selection - the dead have just so many songs that cutting their set down for a two hour video is no easy task (can you imagine another band who'd release a concert video that doesn't even their most well known songs - 'Ripple' excepted). On the up side theres an awesome 'Me & My Uncle' straight into 'Mexicali Blues'. The best version of 'Ramble on Rose' I've heard. Plus 'Franklin's Tower', 'On the Road Again', 'To Lay me Down' & an excellent finale of 'Good Lovin' with Bob Weir getting overexcited. On the down side none of the extended jamming that the we alll love the Dead for, & nothing from the 1967-1974 dead studio period in the electric set. And I could've done without 'psychadelic' visuals. Still, Jerry's on good form & if you love the dead you got to buy it.
