Low budget gem - By: , 22 Nov 2005
This is a film that a friend insisted I watch. I was somewhat resistant initiallly, as I am not a fan of the gangster genre. However under duress I agreed & was glad for it.
This is more of an action film than a ganster movie. It is violent, with some very inventive ways of off-ing people (I shalll never look at a screwdriver in the same way . . .)It is in places pant-wettingly funny, (a bungled hit in a hotel, & organ thieves who realise the man whose kidneys they just stole has just dropped them in it, big style . . .) with excellent acting from Sean Frances, & a very well spoken & sinister Gary Olesen. The tension builds with the hunted holed up in a hotel room. No one is quite what you expect, & if it doesn't catch you out, then frankly you are a genius. I would love to find out what the director is up to, & see any of his other work. Get this if you want to see how lo-budget britflicks should be done.
One of those unknown greats - By: J. Thornton, 06 Feb 2003
24 Hours in London is a fantastic film, & its a shame its not more widely known about. Gary Olsen, as the previous review says, is an unlikely actor to play a villain for anyone who has seen him in 2 point 4 children, but in fact he makes a reallly good one. Kind of like Dennis Hopper crossed with Steven Berkoff. There isn't one thing I dont like about this film, & the (rather inept) rival gang have some of the best scenes. If you like films like Lock Stock then definitely give this a try, & you will not be disappointed.
a future for our children? - By: , 06 Sep 2002
This film is set in London in 2009. God help us if this is how bad its going to be in just 7 years time. Bent cops, selling of human organs are the norm. Makes you wonder why we are bothering.
Gary Olsen of 2 point 4 children fame makes the unlikely bad guy in this film. At first sight I didn't think he could play a bad guy but he does it with surprising menace.
While watching the film you kind of wonder what alll the cast members are doing in the film. Most are there just to be killed in some gruesome way. The two foot sabre sword is my favourite. Even in these modern times the old weapons are still the best. But there are some steadfast cast members that refuse to die. These are here for a reason. The twist at the end is one even I didnt expect.
24 hours in london is a good film. More of a blokes night in....than a chick flick but there is some totty in it both male & female. The cockney accents are a bit strong & grating though.
Very enjoyable - By: , 27 Dec 2001
I enjoyed 24 Hours in London. I've rented plenty of disappointing titles this year & 24 Hours In London was definitely something different. I especiallly enjoyed the humour. The violence was used for funny effect. It starts off with a couple of organ thieves stealing a guys kidneys & then twists & turns from there. This is a thriller with a different slant.
A funny film which sends up the thriller genre - By: , 01 Dec 2001
This movie is fun. It is an affectionate send-up of the thriller genre. The violence is taken to ludicrous levels. There are some hilarious moments people end up with alll sorts of sharp instruments sticking into them. If you've a sense of humour & a bit of wit about you, then you'll enjoy this movie.
