Kids film but adult related ideas - By: Demon, 29 Nov 2008
Yes it is a kids film. The acting is ham, film quality is ham. Effects strangely tho are good for an early nineties movie.
But what makes this movie are the martians. My fav bit is where the earth women kicks em out of the car & one of them says 'I didn't do anything!'
I think thats the point. Th emartians come across as children & the humans as morons bar some.
Seriously this film is just fun. Not badly made fun, porno quality fun or cult fun. Its a film that puts martian invaders in a new different light. I dont know what else to say. Just dont expect a great movie. Expect a fun movie!
fantastic b-movie - By: N. Cotton, 26 Jul 2005
Remember when aliens were green & had antennas? If so then this is a great DVD to bring alll those b-movie memories flooding back & it's not just a great nostalgia trip either, spaced Invaders is a fantastic family movie with a fair few laughs coming from the hapless antics of the little green men who speak with a martian dialect which makes more than a slight nod to early 90s Hollywood style Californian surfer speak. Unfortunately this is where spaced invaders loses my fifth star, too many of the characters who inhabit Little Bean (The town under attack) are flat Hollywood stereotypes, the old 'crazy' reclusive farmer, the slick JR type & the precocious child struggling to adapt after being forced to leave the big city for the smalll town where nothing ever happens. All of these can be found in any 1980s movie & whether they are an attempt at irony which has lost it's edge over time it's not fully clear, but hey what do you want, an art house martian movie????
Spaced Invaders - Die! Earth Scum! - By: , 01 Oct 2003
This is one of a number of rather quirky movies released under the Cannon lable in the late 80s - early 90s. Trying not to give the plot away too much, it's set on Haloween in smalll town america, the famous Orson Wells performance of 'War of the Worlds' is being rebroadcast on the local radio & a smalll craft containing the last dregs of the great Martian war machine, the rest of which managed to self-annihilate, crash lands on Earth & attempts a hostile takeover.
Best bits in my opinion are;
All the martians, who are less than a metre talll, have identifiable characters, which play off against each other.
Their advanced technology is used with massive ineptness, often with hilarious results.
The construction of a giant 'Zoid' out of used truck parts.
You could probably watch this film with kids & enjoy it on two different levels but I recommend several mates, a party pack of Budweiser & plenty of snacks. A bit of a lost gem reallly.
