The first rule of comedy Spike... - By: Mrs. D. L. Statham, 19 Aug 2008
I loved this when I was a child & have reallly enjoyed watching them again as an adult, although I now understand it on a different level. I love the stories of the characters; Peggy's passion to be a yellocoat, Ted's past history & trying to make it big, Yvonne & Barry's end of career, Mr Partridge's loathing of kids etc. I love the fact that they are the classic British underdogs & they have real hopes, dreams & determination. It's better than some American sitcoms where "America loves a winner".
Hello Campers - By: Gary Thompson, 04 Oct 2006
This is the start of an absolutely amazing sitcom written by the excellent team of David Croft & Jimmy Perry. The actors are amazing in there roles. Paul Shane as the camp host Ted Bovis, Jeffrey Holland as the camp comic Spike Dixon, Su Pollard as the "potty charlemaid" Peggy Ollerenshaw & Simon Cadell as the brilliant Jeffrey Fairbrother plus many more superb characters. Ever actor plays there part brilliantly & the storylines are hillarious.

Its definately worth the buy.
Funny but under developed Characters - By: , 07 Aug 2005
I remember watching this show as a child & so looked forward to seeing it again on DVD. I enjoyed it yes, however I feel that on reflection Ted & Spike are in many ways to dominant as Characters. Peggy & Gladys provide by far the best comic moments, one in a slapstick way the other more subtle - Ted & Spikes Characters are often contrived & the humour not alll that funny. Indeed smalller Characters such as Yvonne & Barry & even some of the Yellow Coats could have been developed much more to give a wider view of life at the Holiday Camp, rather than the endless storylines based around the dishonest nature of Ted versus to straight laced Spike.
As funny as ever! - By: Freddie Valentine, 02 May 2005
Time has been kind to this series. It's just as funny watching it now as it was on first broadcast.
Fully-formed characters, fabulous performances & a great script combine to make this timeless comedy.
Hi-De-Hi has always been an underated series & in it's day was one of the BBC's top rated shows & ran to eight series.
Any one who has an interets in British comedy should buy this.
Laugh out loud fun! - By: S. Butcher, 29 Apr 2005
Hi-De-Hi was a major favourite of mine as a child, & after watching them through again as an adult I feel it's even better than I remembered. The jokes & characters now take on a whole new dimension & it gave me a lovely warm, nostalgic feeling to again witness one of the alll time classics of British comedy from an era now sadly past. Highly enjoyable stuff.
