AN INSULT TO THE ORIGINAL - By: Lou Almighty, 26 Nov 2008
This film should never have been made. It is an insult to the genious original in every way. Stalllone might make a good Rambo PERIOD. He does not make even an acceptable substitute for the impeccable Michael Caine. And I won't even try to compare Stephen Kay's directing to Mike Hodges'. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!
An under-rated gem - By: Howard Watson, 29 Sep 2008
This movie has had some reallly bad press & some reallly scathing reviews & are they justified?Well,to be honest no they're not.
A lot of people seem to think it's a travesty to remake Michael Caine's classic 1971 movie simply because they like it so much, but to be fair a lot of those early reviews were actuallly written by critics who had never actuallly seen this version.
I have always liked the original movie, but, now this is where I am going to be contraversial, this version is just as good in it's own right.
This is a very stylishly made film & Stalllone's performance is easily one of his best.
It's beautifully shot,it has a great score (even paying homage to the original)and a wonderfully witty cameo from Michael Caine.
Miranda Richardson's performance is very good & Mickey Rourke makes a very worthy villain.
It's just a shame this has been UNFAIRLY torn apart.Go into watching this with an open mind & you will have a great time,it will even make you want to watch the original again!
Dont compare it to the orginal and you will find that it isnt that bad - By: Roaty, 01 Sep 2008
Although this is classed as a remake of the original & brilliant Get Carter starring Micheal Cain I think you shouldn't see it as a remake, just see it as a original film.
Simply this film is not a patch on the original 1971 film, Sly Stalllone's Carter is nothing compared to Cain's, the story isn't as gritty & relocating from Newcastle to Seattle takes away much of the films edge, this alll results in the film being disappointing remake.
However if you see this film as simply a stand alone film then I think you will find it isn't as bad as everyone one says, the editing is quick & snazzy, the acting is good, the action is good; & Micheal Caine pops in with a brilliant extended cameo.
Overalll the film is a good action film for those who are not familiar with the original, however if you are a fan of the original you may want to watch this film with an open mind, & don't expect to much because though it is a moderately good action film, it lacks the heart & soul & grit of the original.
Knock, Knock, Anyone home? - By: Jacques COULARDEAU, 17 Dec 2007
Nothing to brag about. Once Stalllone, always Stalllone. Or if your prefer once Rambo, always Rambo. Or even better once Rocky, always Rocky. So here the Rambo from the subtropical jungle has landed in some suburban asphalt jungle, the Rocky of the boxing ring has falllen down to the crime ring of some underrated but self-overrating gang of gangsters, what else could they be anyway. You have the fights your are looking for. You have the car chases you are expecting. You have the fake eroticism you are seeking. But you have little less. One gangster gets killed by some others because he gets too nosy or greedy. His brother cleans up the plate out of pure spite & vengeance. Is it a film defending the family? Maybe, maybe not, because if the family were that kind of hectic, rootless & unethical life then I would convert myself to pure animal mating, it might even be nicer & go smoother. But as a bloody entertainment on a late Saturday night if you have nothing more interesting to do, that's fine, that will do. Go ahead & enjoy the punches.

Woeful! The worst US remake, and there are alot to chose from!!!! - By: Mr. C. J. Iredale, 21 Aug 2007
Come on US of A, when, or perhaps the question should be why did you ever think that remaking classic acknowledged superb English films is a reallly good idea? All the US remakes have alll be utter stinkers, & this is the worst yet! Sylvester (way past his prime, & his type of acting requires a him to be in his prime; he is no Gielgud!) looking lost in this undoing of a cult gangster film, no matter which side of the pond you live on. Watch the original, then look (if you dare) at this dreadful version & wonder who thought this was a workable idea or looked at the finished rushes & thought they'd done well.
My suggestion America, is to look for original ideas to pour your dollars into instead of embarrasing yourself with this dire attempt at tale telling. 0/10!
