brilliant performances - By: N. Chatham, 10 Mar 2008
a truly stunning film & penn"s performance just adds to his impressive cv.However Pfeiffer & Fanning are very good too. penns performance reminded me somewhat of dustin hoffman in rainman. A tearjerker but also a feelgood movie highly reccommended.
Why the missing scene? - By: Da Parsons, 28 Feb 2008
I watched this film & again was impressed with Sean Penn who just gets better like a wine growing with age, & you can see why Dakota Fanning is being used in many films for the child's part. But looking through the deleted scenes, there was the lift scene where Penn was just like a young child, enthrallled by the people like ants below & Pfieffer looking sicker at every description of the height they were at! This surely was an important scene as it emphasised childlike ways & explained why they suddenly stopped using the lift. I thought this was one of those great scenes that should have been in a film & ended up making the film (slightly) poorer by its exclusion
Brilliant - By: Mrs. S. Meiszner, 17 Dec 2007
No Doubt about it Sean Penn excelled himself in this role. It is a wonderful film brought tears to our eyes. We have watched it so many times. A real tear jerker but great for displaying that people with disabilities aren't stupid. Wonderfully produced.
top class - By: RD, 11 Nov 2007
I have watched this movie so many times & yet it always manages to bring a tear to my eye. The acting is brilliant & one reallly grows attached to the characters, especiallly Sean Penn as Sam. A wonderful movie in alll aspects. Definitely worth watching but don't forget the tissues.
Wow! - By: London Girl, 08 May 2007
A friend lent me this film & I had to admit, I'd never heard of it & wasn't sure what to expect. I laughed & cried my way through the film. I cannot begin to put into words the fabulous performance of Sean Penn playing an Autistic father with the mental age of 7, you totallly believe in him & he should have won an oscar for his portrayal. A brilliant film from the opening credits to the end, a must for anyone's DVD collection!!
