Final Season for Xena and Gabrielle - By: E. A. Redfearn, 31 Jan 2005
Some of the best episodes can be found here for they are great viewing. Great alll round entertainment for Xena fans as the duo embark on their final adventures which ends in a superb two parter set in Japan. Only criticism of the set however, is that extras are non existent which is a shame. But, am sure Xena fans will lap it up anyway. Great picture & sound, & even better price too. With prices as low as this, they are giving DVDs away nowadays.
The beginning of the end... - By: larabard, 05 May 2004
And thus we begin. The final Xena series, heralded by a heart felt sob on behalf of this fan. This spartan DVD contains some lovely episodes but the lack of extras does leave me somewhat bereft. I keep looking longingly to America & the recent release of the series with commentaries, outtakes & the rest. I hope to see the release of a similar edition over here.
That said, lets get down to brass tacks. This series marks a return to form for XWP. I didn't dislike the 5th series, but I did find it lacking in ... um... heart. The 6th series definitely sees a return of the 'heart' - our two heroines are soulmates once again, the subtext (which I love) crops up again & again in a delightful way. The first half of the 6th series box set as some brilliant episodes. 'Coming Home', written by major Fanfic writer, Melissa Good sets the scene - it's a new life for XWP & her soulmate, 25 years beyond icey oblivion. Then we head straight into a voyage of discovery to find out what's happened to our heroines' loved ones, with some highly erotic dancing in 'Heart of Darkness'. Oh, how I love our girls! The Norse Trilogy is brilliant & inspired me to find out lots more about Odin & his Valkyries. in fact, XWP has turned me into a bit of mythology nut, alll round. 'Old Ares had a farm' raises many a smile & we get to see the girls at their seductive best. The box set ends with a Renee directed episode. I'm reluctant to criticise one of my fave spunky actresses & there is nothing wrong with the direction but this isn't the greatest story line to plunge us onwards into Part 2!
Some wonderful episodes - By: , 26 Jan 2004
The DVD is pretty much the same as alll the others regarding style & lack of any extras - but still nice presentation & sharp quality Xena episodes.

This is one definitely for the subtext/maintext viewers. I have always been a skeptic in the past but what I've seen of the first half of the season leaves little to speculation. Not an episode goes by without, at the very least, a significant glance - touch or heartfelt admission between Xena & her bard. Some of the maintext in one episode is enough to put other seasons to shame! They reallly made up for the unpopular season 5. If you've ever read any subtext reports - I'm sure they don't do the real thing justice. You just have to see it - I promise your jaw would've hit the floor at least once!

2 episodes in particular are written by the famous (celebrity status in the Xenaverse!) Melissa Good & another ("Dangerous Prey") is directed by Renee O'Connor. We get some *reallly* memorable scenes, to name a few:

- Ares being tormented by the Furies in Coming Home
- Some funky SFX in the Haunting of Amphipolis
- The dance & jealous looks & remarks in Heart of Darkness.
- Loads of great, dramatic acting in Who's Gurkhan (More dancing!)
- The arguing in Legacy over Gabrielle's guilt.
- The freezing scenes in The Abyss that ought to leave your eyes stinging
- And yes, the Norse trilogy. A GREAT little excursion up north resembling much a certain much loved folk tale, with plenty of love thrown in for good measure
- Old Ares had a farm is pretty much the only comedic effort for this half of the season. And you'll get a few laughs out of it - & yet more gratuitous showing of flesh :D
- I found Dangerous Prey a little dull just because I didn't much care for the 'nemesis of the week'. One thing I liked though, was Xena's lil jump from the pyre - flashy.

So yes, lots to keep you interested. And you'll undoubtably find a few you'll want to watch over & over. It's regarded as the best season of Xena, ever. And it doesn't disappoint. Oh yeah, & we're treated to FINALLY getting a new credits opening, yay!

Btw, it figures that it goes up for sale AFTER I buy it for full price! Cheers.

The best kickbutt, action show you'll ever see! - By: , 10 Apr 2002
After 5 seasons of highs & lows comes the final season--and what a fantastic one it is! It reallly has got it alll & it goes out with quite a bang.
It starts with a battle in hell & then takes our two heroines into the desert, Scandinavia (with a bit of Norse mythology thrown in), Greece & Rome & finallly winds up in the kingdom of Chin. New characters are introduced as well as old ones, e.g Ares makes several appearances & even Joxer has a brief comeback! The finale is truly spectacular & does bring the whole story to a logical -albeit sad- conclusion. If you have watched alll of the previous shows, get this one. It definitely rocks!
The end - But what an end!!! - By: , 25 Feb 2002
I was lucky enough to watch the last season of Xena while I was over in America for a few months.
I have been a huge fan of Xena ever since it was produced in 1995 & have loved the charecters throughout the first five seasons but season six reallly blew me away. Not only did it have stunning episodes & story lines but Lucy Lawless was looking even more stunning than normal & I think you will agree that that is pretty hard to do.
As I have mentioned season six is the last season of Xean this is a very bad thing but that last episode was uttly amazing. A lot of plot lines that have grown over the past five years were brought to an end including the truth about Xena & Gabriels relationship.
This DVD is a must have for alll those who are or are not fans of Xena as it is pure good action with great special effects - enough to fill anyones wishes. BUY IT!!!
