One for the collection - By: Mr. G. R. Thomson, 07 May 2008
Been a whil since i saw this film so may be hard to write spcifics in the review however i will try & give it my best shot!

The people saying that there are long drawen out scenes don't know what they are talking about, alll the film is relevent to the plot. The acting is good if not brilliant! Okay there are sci-fi bits that may not seem intresting but reallly the film is trying to get across the same as the book...Live with your descions & don't have any regrets.

I would recomend this film to alll! (if you hate sci-fi though maybe this isn't the film for you)
Judge it for itself and not as re-make. - By: Mr. A. W. Powsey, 08 Apr 2008
I bought this for £2 to use as a language aid (sub titles in the major euro languages) without much hope of finding it reallly enjoyable....but it was! The computer graphics were excellent & the time machine was awesome (apparently it took technicians over a year to plan & build. The story does drift a long way from the original but does have interesting alternatives. The Eloi have become cliff dwelling folk who live in basket type huts clinging to the cliff edge like swalllow's nests, connected by vertiginous complexes of ladders. The Morlocks live below ground & have a caste system of hunters & spies lead by a highly evolved being, the Uber morlock, whose brain is so big it extends down his spine, This character is played by Jeremy Irons (at least 5 hours in make up!) Samantha Mumba is one of the love interests, & she is gorgeous! There are a few silly moments: the hero has his machine parked in NYC unattended & comes back to find it still intact (how believable is that !)People have mocked the film saying how could english have survived for so long (800,000 years into the future) & how come there are still vestiges of old New York in the form of stone fragments? What about Latin, Sanscrit etc & even dinosaurs footprints still exist today. OK this is not going to make it into the 100 best ever films but it is still a very enjoyable view. The Director justs happens to be HG Wells's great grandson!

not bad for a remake - By: Red Rose, 18 Dec 2007
Yes, another remake. However the result is not bad at alll, although the critics can't seem to agree on how good this film this.

So, what is better ?? The plot certainly. After the murder of his wife to be, the inventor tries to use the time machine to change history, & after failed attempts to stop her death, decides to travel into the future & find out why he can not change the course of history. His quest so answer the question, what if ?, has serious consequences.

The 'baddie' Morlocks are certainly better in this film, & Jeromy Irons, as their cheif manages to steal the show, although his part is fairly brief. Mildly shocking, is the time traveler's first findings, when investigating the Morlocks underground caves.

The conclusion of this film, is slightly less obvious than the original film, which is also a plus. The whole approach to this film is more modern, & so it should be after alll these years. There is no good reason for you not to enjoy this.
Cynical branding exercise - By: Ray Blake, 09 Dec 2007
Although this is by no means an irredeemable movie, it reallly has very little to do with the Wells novel it purports to portray, substituting a rather inferior plot & conferring some ludicrous longevities on today's artifacts. (Go & look, for instance, at the average hundred-year-old tombstone & speculate on whether a stone engraving might survive 800,000 years unscathed by weathering.)

Under some other title, this might earn 3 stars or more, but the use of the highly regarded brand to entice viewers to the film is shalllow & cynical.
POOR REMAKE - By: Nevs, 26 Oct 2007
Okay, some of the ffects were good, but here endeth the praise.

Beyonce looked lovely but the interpretation of a classic story just didn't get there.
