Best Worst Film Of The Year (1989) - By: PhilsterNo1, 10 Jun 2008
Nothing special to add to alll the other ambivalent encomia already shovelled onto this mess of a film. Lots of good ingredients that add up to nothing but unintended laughs.
Fast cars, explosions, naked chicks for the guys, naked Swayze for the girls (and for Swayze himself), & of course, superb fight sequences. The story & the total absence of police are simply ludicrous.
Funny thing is, when Dalton's bouncer-mentor turns up to help, about halfway through the movie, he's so much cooler than Dalton you want to skip the plot & just tag along with him. An opportunity wasted.
Definitely one to put with other films you reckon are good because they're bad.
Two Hour Stimulation Pill - By: Jay, 14 Dec 2007
Road House is one of those films you spend about two hours watching & never reallly understand what is happening but you're too entertained to care. It is about Dalton (Swayze), the greatest bouncer, who has come to a smalll road house to instill order. He cleans up the bar's poor crop of bouncers & manages to falll in love with the town doctor. All the while, pissing off the local crime boss. Monster trucks, tons of breasts, kung fu, & a blind guitarist later, you still don't have to think to be amused.
I HATE ACTION MOVIES - By: A. Doyle, 24 Apr 2007
but this one has to be admired, revered, even as it has everything that an entertaining film should have. no, it's not intellectual & the acting's crap & the storyline is in my opinion pretty much the same as every other action movie in existence, but it has a hero with elvis hair who is still cool(and a philosopher & karate expert who does his own stitches without anaestheic), a sexy love intrest with huge hair who also happens to be a doctor, an excellent baddie, dopey henchmen, a mean (though extremely pouffy) rival, a tough mentor, awesome music including tito & tarantula of dusk till dawn fame, bar fights & monster trucks running over cars in a showroom. it's as though the makers sat down & decided to compile every adolescent fantasy that they ever had an put them in a movie. highly enjoyable.
It is good.. - By: S J Buck, 03 Nov 2006
I watched this accidently initiallly. Its got an awful title, what plot there is has been done before & the acting isn't anything special, but do you know something its actuallly pretty good. Whenever its on TV I have to watch it, I can't help myself.
Perhaps its the oriental psuedo-philosophy aspect that appeals or maybe its just that I want to be as tough as Dalton (Swayze) is in this film. Might also be that I enjoyed the music by Jeff Healey as well, a great blind blues guitar player, who plays electric guitar flat on his lap.
Anyway it seems to hold up to repeated viewings, so if like me it grabs you (even if you're not sure why) then I wouldn't blame you for buying this.
Best US film of the era - By: , 08 Aug 2003
You have to love this film. Genius 80's cheese. The script ain't bad, the acting is reasonable & the fight scenes were choreographed by Benny The Jet, who kickboxers will know as a bit of a hero. Oh & it helps to be drunk to truly appreciate it.
