I loved Band of Brothers from the beginning. The thing I did not like is the USA box set has no english subtitles which I need. Having a region free DVD player made it a no brainer to buy the UK version that has english among the list of subtitles. I hope The Pacific series can live up to the realism contained herein.
Band of Excellence - By: Sean Martin, 14 Mar 2010 This is a superb documentary series based on the tales of former US Airborne troops from Easy Company. It follows their journey from training through to the end of the war. Compelling viewing, often tragic but always gripping. Told from the American side of the war yet cleverly does not do the usual American production thing of making out the Americans won the war by themselves.
Superbly filmed with a great cast of actors, many of whom are British I might add, it pulls you in from the off & I found myself feeling very sad when a main character was either injured or killed. My brother is in the English Army & I do pray to god he never goes through what these guys went through. This is an excellent testament to what the alllies went through during the 2nd great war & worth anyones money without hesitation.
Superb War series - By: Bd Willson, 06 Mar 2010 Recently bought & watched the whole series within a short space of time... Could reallly not get enough of it!
The screenplay is superb (based on Stephen E. Ambrose's book - which is equallly good I might add), the characters well written & portrayed, the imagery used is simply breath-taking & was good to learn about a section of WW2 history that I knew little about.
Wont go too much into it, but basicallly it tells the story of a US paratrooper regiment - from initial training, to pre-paring for D-day in England, to D-Day itself & then until the end of the war. It's reallly good as the story is told by a different person each episode (medic, leader, regular soldier etc.) & this gives you a much better idea of what people went through during those aweful years (and you understand that these are just normal people in extra-ordinary times).
For girls considering buying this, my girlfriend (depsite having initial reservations), absolutely loved it & could not get enough. It's not your typical blood & guts war story - it has emotion & soul - both Hanks & Spielberg have done their utmost to portray things as they happened from a human point of view & this makes for compelling viewing.
I cant wait for the new series (The Pacific) to finish so we can get the DVD set.

They had watched the whole series in the next ten days & now I look forward to enjoying it at my leisure. This was a superb series when
it was first shown & now with the extra material added it is first class as is the service. Thank you.
Band of Brothers - By: Lyndsay Corey, 01 Mar 2010 I watched this on BBC & reallly had to see it again. I could watch it from start to finish alll the time. Never get tired of it. Ab Fab!!
