Quirky RomCom - By: 01gnu, 28 Jul 2007
if you do not appreciate the cheesiness of some romcom's then this will come as a refreshing change. The romantic elements are low key & the backstory & setting are unusual enough to take the focus off the overused "zero to hero" formula. It contains a good few laughs along the way with alll the main characters giving a good performance but for me, the character played by Warren Clarke was an unexpected bonus.
Brilliant! Comical and Admirable - By: Phillip Carroll, 27 Jul 2007
I reallly didn't know what to expect from this, a film about a hairdressing championship - how good could that be? But after watching it I thought it was brilliant, very well plotted & comical.
It also has a good cast variety like Alan Rickman (Harry Potter), Natasha Richardson (The Parent Trap), Rachel Griffiths (Me Myself I), Rachael Leigh Cook (She's alll That), Josh Hartnett (40 Days & 40 Nights) & Bill Nighy (Love Actuallly).
At times the humour & story can be dry but overalll is a funny & admirable film. I would recommend this film to others but would recommend you to rent it first as it may not be to everyone's taste.
Blow Dry - By: Rich Milligan, 14 Mar 2005
I don't suppose you can reallly have a film that features Bill Nighy, Alan Rickman, Natasha Richardson & Warren Clarke & yet turns out to be total twaddle, but take a novel idea & let these; some of the finest British actors, run away with it & you have something reallly unique on your hands.
A real mixture of over the top campness & complete pantomime this could have easily turned out to be a total farce but yet it somehow manages to combine the extreme showbiz with heart warming moments & pull it off with aplomb.
Mind you, you do have to question the choice of Josh Hartnett as the handsome young man interest, nothing against him as an actor & the less said about the accent the better, but couldn't they have found a young British actor instead?
Keep a look out for Peter Kay also in one of the crowd scenes.
Great! - By: , 04 Sep 2004
What a marvellous piece of escapism for a Saturday afternoon! A good mix of comedy & tragedy keeps this film from being too sickly; the illness of one character is handled realisticallly, yet the film does not dwell on this. The setting is superb, as is most of the cast; with the possible exception of Josh Hartnett (never reallly got the hang of the old Yorkshire accent, but tried valiantly anyway!)there is nevertheless a knockout combination of "male cameo" (Warren Clarke in excellent form), "the Baddy" (Bill Nighy casting evil glares in every direction) & the "reluctant hero" (Alan Rickman at a dour best). The female characters support rather than lead, but on the whole do it very well; my only complaint was Cook's rather yawn-inducing screen presence. All in alll, a reallly enjoyable "watch-again" film!
Great fun - By: , 29 Oct 2003
I thought Blow Dry was a reallly good film but then I am biased towards a member of the cast so would probably have found it fantastic if it was the worst thing I'd ever seen. I'd recommend watching it before buying it as I don't think its the sort of film which everyone would enjoy.
