....slightly different.... - By: Review - makA 99, 05 Dec 2007
The low budget film adaptation of Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale" actuallly is coined by slight differences in contrast to the novel.Of course it also tells the story of Offred & her life in the dictatorial system of Gilead. For me, as someone who eventuallly read the book before, the film was not that interesting anymore, but definitely worth seeing, because it helped me to get a clear image of the whole scenery. So everybody enjoy the film(and, if possible:read the novel)....

i watched the film first years ago when i was in high school & never knew it was from a book it was few years ago i found out, although the book is better BUT COME ON FOLKS WHEN IS THE FILM EVER BETTER THAN THE BOOK??????
felt they did a brill job with the film, was disturbing, dark & brill choice of cast yet still entertaining. A must watch for anyone who likes there films to be a bit more off the beaten track enjoy!
Literary Slaughter - By: Matt, 23 Nov 2004
After studying the novel, & reading several of Atwoods other works, I found this movie to be a gross misrepresentation of her dystopic masterpiece. Whereas the novel gained it's strength from ambiguity & ignorance the film tacks answers onto a story that was better off without them (Offreds name & Lukes fate being two obvious examples). The end is not only forced & non-sensical, but serves to undermine the sinister Republic of Gilead. This is alll to say nothing of the uninspired dialogue & wooden acting. More than dissapointing; appallling.
A great adaptation of a wonderful novel. - By: R. Williams, 22 Sep 2004
I thought that this film was very entertaining, & helpful to my A-level course, i would recommend anyone that is studying this book as part of their course to watch this, i found that although i had read the book, i still enjoyed it very much, as it also has some added material. I dont think its for anyone who is very squeemish though. I also enjoyed the romance in the film, which i think that books often dont portray as well.
Possibly the best film ever made! - By: , 16 Jan 2004
This film is possibly the best film I have ever seen. The main leads elegantly portray their respective characters magnificiently & concisely. The editing of the book is outstanding. I love the new bits added in. The erotic scenes are handled with care & consideration & are not offensive. I have never seen such a beautiful tale of love & compasion. The film ranks among the likes of 'Lord of the Flies' & 'Batman' & other well known classics. If you see 1 film this year see Harry Potter, Spiderman or Kill Bill volume 2. If you have the time, see this.
