a few good jokes that were ruined by being drawn out.... - By: J. Messing, 21 Sep 2007
they tried. you could see the jokes coming a mile off & most of them werent remotely funny. there were a few pretty funny moments which they subsequently destroyed by explaining or drawing out the joke.

for example, the "death grip" joke, when the enemy being death gripped says "what the hell are you doing?!". it was funny. then the han solo parody says that he's trying to death grip the enemy, & the enemy then explains how to do it & gets killed. so un-hilarious it ruined the first bit.

apart from that bit, the only other parts youll laugh at are the excessively long ship at the beginning & the "comb the area" bit. & perhaps the "your schwartz is as big as mine". but now i've told you those jokes theres no point seeing it.
A classic, even better than the real thing - By: M. O. HAYNES, 03 May 2006
This film is a must-see for any sci-fi fan who needs a serious reality check. In lampooning Star Wars it actuallly makes you realise how silly the original film was in the first place. Chewbacca reallly is just a big dog, Darth Vader does appear to have serious breathing difficulties inside that helmet & didn't the whole thing turn into one big marketting machine for dolls, lunchboxes, duvet covers etc. etc.

The scene where they view a copy of the film to see what is going to happen in the future is a piece of comedy genius.

I am a reallly big Star Wars & Babylon 5 fan but you have to have a laugh at how silly these things reallly are. If you liked this film try 'Galaxy Quest' too - it's not as funny but again mocks the likes of Star Trek.
Mel Brooks IS George Lucas. - By: Mr. J. R. Coupland, 16 Dec 2004
Underrated film, Spaceballls.

I always liked it.

I still do, even though it's stupid & obvious.

Helps if you like Star Wars.

And other Sci-fi films.

There's a neat Transformers parody in it, too.

And a strange bit where they alll watch themselves on video.

Hope this review has been helpful.

I doubt it.

It Really Does Have It's Moments :D - By: David Pursglove, 30 Jul 2004
When I first watched Spaceballls, it was back in the year 1998, I originallly taped it from Sky & I immediatley showed it to my friends. The Film Was Hillarious from Beginning to end with the odd stereotypical joke put in here & there.

One of the great things about this movie is the fact that it's a comedy we alll know & love, newer comedy is crude & tasteless but this one pleads to alll ages. Everyone loves Mel Brooks & in my opinion this is one of my favourite MB Comedy Flicks, plenty of cultural references are made along with big Star Wars Merchandising Campaigns :p. It's a film the whole family can watch together & everyone will gaurantee a laugh.

Even though I bought this for £10 a few years ago on DVD, you can get it for even cheaper now & even though the Special Features may lack, it's individualism is the fact that the DVD is dual sided meaning you can watch it in both Widescreen & Fullscreen at your own choice. I suggest you buy this DVD even if your not a fan of Star Wars because you will certainly have a good time.

the worst mel brooks film ever - By: Paul Ferguson, 22 Jul 2004
This is one of the worst comedy films I have ever seen. It's very very very unfunny. I cringed alll the way through, except for the Alien dance-routine (which was brilliant).

It's a Star Wars parody, & that is the problem. It's basicallly taking things directly from Star Wars & renaming them to make 'jokes'. It's not funny. This appears to be the one big Mel Brooks stinker. It's the kind of film you don't laugh with, but at - & not very loudly.

Pretty much every line was excruciating, even I could have written better. Apparently though, it took three people(!) to write this nonsense. Believe it or not, this is one of only two Mel Brooks films I've seen. The other that I know of (Dracula: Dead & Loving It) is reallly funny, & features Leslie Nielson. This features Bill Pullman, playing a lame Han Solo parody.

For some films they're only good because they're bad. This is simply bad. I simply can't see how anyone enjoyed this film for anything other than seeing how bad it was. But as it was so bad, I gained a little enjoyment out of just that, & I give it two stars.

Actuallly, no. One star. In the hope that nobody makes another comedy this awful.
