grows on you - By: Nick, 15 Mar 2007
I feel like i need to stand up for this film. The first time i saw it, to be honest i wasn't sure. But like a good piece of music the more i watched it the more i loved it. Now its right up there with my favourite movies of alll time. As a film it certainly can't be put into a single catagory in fact it made me feel sad as much as it made me laugh but it does evoke an emotional response which at the end of the day only good films do. One things for sure you wont watch this film & feel like you've seen the same thing a thousand times before.
strange, very strange - By: ian laybourn, 08 Dec 2006
i absolutely loved it. although i am a massive bill murray fan. still not completely sure wot the point of the film is. murray is excellent, the rest of the cast are great & the music is inspired. give me a red hat & some speedos. watch it. you know you want to.
I must protest! - By: Mrs. S. Lewis, 11 Aug 2006
I don't normallly review DVDs, but having read the other reviews I feel very strongly that I must stand up for this lovely film. Like Wes Anderson's other masterpiece "The Royal Tennenbaums", this film defies categorisation: if you are looking for a straigtforward action, drama, comedy or romance, you will probably be disappointed, yet this film contains alll of those elements & a great deal more, & who wants straightforward anyway? I found the film beautiful, touching, lyrical, astute & very, very funny. If you can appreciate it's unique visual language & subtle humour, you will be richly rewarded.
Maybe I just didn't get it??? - By: J. Seal, 07 Jul 2006
This is a very strange film & if I could give it half a star I would. I felt as though I had wasted my life, simply by sitting & watching the whole thing, I wish I had listened to my sanity when I tried telling myself to turn it off after the first 20 minutes, but I persevered, hoping that it would get there in the end. I will save you the trouble & time, it doesn't, this just isn't my type of humour, although it has alll the right ingredients, a great cast, a potentiallly funny story, it just didn't come together for me. I totallly agree with one of the other reviewers, it had it alll there to be funny & in my head I was thinking that certain scenes were funny, but it just didn't make me laugh & I found it a struggle to watch the whole thing. Maybe it just past me by, but personallly you couldn't pay me to watch this film again.
Passed me by. - By: Arheddis Varkenjaab, 25 Mar 2006
Now, I can see why someone might find this funny. From a purely intellectual-exercise sort of point-of-view, I can see the jokes. Even appreciate them. But they just don't work for me. I'm sitting stony-faced, yet thinking 'hmm, funny. I like what they did there.'

Inventive, clever, fantastic sets, some great dialog...but then it's so much less than the sum of it's parts. As a result, this is actualy a film you can dip into. Start the DVD anywhere, even use that seemingly 'random' button to skip about the chapters. Clever, possibly too much so. I reallly wanted to like this, it pushes alll the right buttons, but for me, boring.
