Eastern, I mean Western Comedy - By: M. A. Ramos, 05 Oct 2007
Here, Lucy Liu (Chinese Princess) is kidnapped by a Chinese traitor & a marshal who belongs in jail. Jackie Chan plays an Imperial Guard who travels from the Forbidden City to the wild west & ends up joining up with a very enjoyable & easy going train robber Owen Wilson in order to rescue her. Even though a western, there are many martial arts opportunity for Jackie. My favorite fight is when Jackie uses saplings to fight a group of Crow Indians. The interaction of the two main characters is very enjoyable & fun. To be added to every martial arts/western/comedy library.
It isn't art...So What? - By: Henry Watkinson, 16 Aug 2006
I love this film. Okay, some say it isn't art & I concur it isn't art in the way that Mulholland Drive & The Godfather are. but they're a films to see because they are just great films. This is a film to see for fun. woth splendid action scenes plus an enjoyable cowboy teaches chinaman sequence it a must for any Jackie Chan fan. Though, as with any film I review I recommend you rent it first.

A Laugh a Minute Funfest! - By: J. Stubbs, 04 Jan 2006
Shanghai Noon is a great movie that the whole family can enjoy, starring Jackie Chan & Owen Wilson. The plot, without spoiling anything, is full of hooks & action sequences that are like eye-candy to watch. You'll also find that the story has intertwining elements that become apparent on the second or third watching & not before, meaning you have to watch this film multiple times to understand its true point & meaning.
But rest assured, you'll want to. The film just reels you in, & it won't be a stagnant member of your video collection despite the number of blockbusters you may own. Some of the comedic sketches never get old & the whole lifespan aspect is done with satisfying attention to detail, meaning you will miss a trick maybe the first three times you view the video & will only notice it by chance the fourth time.
Another impressive feature of this film is the realisation of the locales & settings in which the film takes place. The grittiness of the Chinese slavery mines are realised with pinpoint precision, as are the Western settings such as the Old Town with incredible authenticity.
The film is, as a whole, based on martial arts & fighting, as with many Jackie Chan films. However, you will also find a moral mixed in with the roundhouses - the difficulty of overcoming foreign barriers & how unaccepted foreigners are in strange locations.
In alll, Shanghai Noon is a great family film you'll watch again & again. And with the price being as rock bottom as it is, you have no excuse not to get this in.
Chan and Wilson: The Mix - By: , 04 Dec 2005
Jackie Chan & Owen Wilson perform fablously in Shanghi Noon. 'Noon is gr8 because it has a great storyline yet it has key comedy moments. Chan's seriousness & Wilson's playful antics mix well toghether. I would say that Shanghi Noon is also a great film for families. If you like Shanhgi Noon you should try its sequel Shanhgi Knights, The Wedding Crashers and/or The Tuxedo.:)
