This film without a doubt is one of my alll time favourites, i was a fan of the video game, i remember staying over at my cousins when i was 4 & we would play the mario games for hours & when i heard they were makin a film i couldnt wait.
i remember watching this film for the first time & immediatly loved it, the film doesnt keep in touch with the games alll that much, but that in no way makes this a bad film, who cares if it doesnt keep to the games, films like that normallly suck, may i remind people of resident evil or even mortal combat or recently doom.
the actors in the main roles are pefectly cast, especiallly bob hoskins & dennis hopper, with great support from john leuizamo & samantha mathis, even iggy & spike bring temendous humour. the film is of a darker tone to the games, & more real situations, even if there are dinosaurs in it, thats one of the things that make it a good film, yes it is cheesy, yes there is a bit of over acting, but these are alll good things that make it the film it is.
this film is funny, exciting, emotional & overalll a joy to watch, woth scenes such as the pipe slide on the goomba matress or the final hsowdown with mario & koopa, or even the dance with mario & big bertha (classic) make this an amazing film the onl bad thing about this film was the ending that i won't spoil incase you havnt seen it but yu just wish they would of made a sequel which they were planning but sadly the film wasnt that popular on release so was never made
Nothing like the games but brilliant all the same - By: Shion 2, 20 Dec 2006 As you probably read in alll of the other reviews, alot of mario & nintendo
fans think that this film is poor & ridiculous because the characters
in no way resemble theyre 2d counterparts.
Why is that a bad thing?, to translate the world from the game exactly into a
medium such as cinema would have been impossible, & have required an amount
of CGI & hard to implement items (such as hitting boxes with your head)
which could have not been integrated (or developed at the time) well into
a movie.
In my opinion what the actual movie was like is much better than any thing
they could have done which exactly was true to the mario world.
It is much more interesting because you can still see you're favourite characters
and also experience how they would be existing in the real world & dealing
with real problems such as lack of plumbing jobs etc.
Now onto the actual plot,
Although its a little sillier than some people would like in places it
is a reallly interesting & fun film, the mario & luigi team of "Bob hoskins"
and "John Leguiziamo" provide a very good base for the film, as a whole
both of them play their parts well & create a fun & believeable brother team.
Again the best part of this film has to be the fact that you see alll of your
favourite characters brought to life, & in a zany & fun way.
Yoshi is a cute CGI/puppet that is basicallly like a loyal puppy, mario &
luigi are a charismatic plumber duo, peach is a gun toting princess,and
koopa is a sleazy businessman trying to subvert & accuire the mushroom
kingdom.
I sawthis film as a child for many of my younger years & I still enjoy
it now, a must see for any mario fan & a muct see for your kids.

TRUST ME THIS A GOOD MOVIE RENT IT OUT AND BUY IT LATER IF YOU DONT BELEIVE ME..ITS FUNNY AND MAJESTIC I ENJOYED EVERY SECOND LOL AT BOB HOSKINS AND LUIGEAZAMO THEY MAKE A GOOD BUDDY BROTHER COUPLE ITS REALLY FUNNY IS WELL GO FOR IT

SUPER! - By: Mark, 28 Dec 2004 This movie is around 11 years old now & I have to admit it isn't rubbish, it is good! Yeah it could of been better but whats wrong with this? Its a family movie, the acting isnt bad at alll & it was a hit back then! 11 years later & I still enjoy this film!
