Brilliant Film - By: , 12 Nov 2003
A future critical dystopia set in 2026. Was one of Hitler's favourite films, although he could not have seen the true message of the film. Prophetic film of its time. This film was a catalyst for the future sci fi texts such as Bladerunner, Terminater, the fifth element & even The Matrix. Very indicative of the expressionist style, with canted framing, distored veiw of the future. A religious subtext is definatly resonating throughout the text. Deals with oppression; alll the humans were completely dehumatised. The film reflects new & social orders & realities; fear of modernisation & machinery.

The score, 80's style rock is argued to be outrageous, but very enjoyable to watch! Also the retored tinted version is more accessible.

Brilliant German Expressionist text, also look out for 'the Cabinet of Dr Caligari, Nosferatu & Madam Dubarry.
