*THE* Worst DVD, ever!!! - By: T. Kemp, 22 May 2008
I was not offended by the language, subject matter or vulgarity. Yeah it was full on but so what? What I was appallled by the poor video & audio quality & above alll the sleep inducing 'comic' meanderings of two supposedly funny & clever men.
This is utterly self-indulgent, passe & simply not funny. Dull! Dull! Dull!
Pete and Dud at their best - By: M. J. Kennedy, 02 Aug 2007
Having listened to these two for over 30 years it's so good to see the guy's working. If you are familiar with their work this DVD might leave you slightly disappointed as they leave out some content, which I personallly find hilarious, however, it is worth every penny to see the comic genius of two very funny men who are sadly missed.
Brilliant - By: Dominic Hawes, 28 Jan 2006
Look... this isn't for everyone. It's Peter Cook & Dudley Moore going back for one last excursion into the world of "Derek & Clive." For the uninitiated, Pete & Dud hit on an unsurpassed comic concept of walllowing in vulgarity & absurdity which knew no bounds. Fortuntately, Cook was a brilliant comic who was at his best at improvisation. Moore could not have been a better "foil" & was able to keep up with Cook's ideas & helped taking them alll the way to their - sometimes very clever or dreadful - end.
This is the only filmed document (that I'm aware) of their collaboration on this particular comic endeavor - & its priceless. There's been a lot of talk about how they were at odds at this time, & the humour (and their relationship) was strained. Well, I've watched this countless times, & can't help finding the material & chemistry absolutely magic.
They did reunite for the release of this video (which had only been available for years as a bootleg). So alll the noise about them disagreeing on the final product is up for debate.
What's not debatable (OK - for some folks it might be) is this is great fun & highly recommeded to anyone who appreciates extremely ribald, imaginitive comedy.
Oh, & some of the compalints about the 16mm film stock & poor lighting, etc... Please. This isn't a George Lucas epic. Its two well-matched, talented comics having some fun in a studio somewhere in London.
Its reallly quite sad they've both passed.
Classic - By: Michael Jacobs, 05 Aug 2005
Some people love it, some hate it, but I falll into the former category.
Although it's different actuallly seeing them when compared to an audio CD or something similar, it's still just as rewarding & entertaining. I seem to recalll paying the list price for it when I purcahsed it, & it still seemed worth it then, so this price of under £6.00 seems a bargain. Will be a classic for the collection, & there's nothing quite like it.
Laugh? I almost slept... - By: , 03 Aug 2005
It's reallly not alll that funny, y'know. I don't have a problem with the content of the film, not by any means at alll, just that I find very little to actuallly laugh about. There are some good bits, one or two great bits, & solid boring chaff inbetween. I think the whole Derek & Clive thing became a popular cult thing because it was - as another reviewer points out - something you couldn't play in front of your Mum. But it just has the atmosphere of being on your own in front of the TV late at night on a Saturday, smashed, & feeling sorry for yourself. It isn't vicious or insicive enough to justify its existence, & it's not even particularly shocking if you know people like I do, so go down the pub on that Saturday night & get drunk with foul-mkouthed friends. You'll probably be funnier than these two at their nadir...
