If you want to watch just one JC Van Damme movie - it should be this one - By: Maciej K., 24 Sep 2007
First, to get the things straight, I am the first to recognise tha JC Van Damme is not reallly an actor & his movies are usuallly nothing more that settings for some martial arts displays. But "Timecop" is the exception to the rule. This is a quite smart story about a very special police force, which fights against the abuse of time travelling. Timecops search fugitives who escaped in the past (there is no travels into the future), bandits, who go to the past to loot & plunder using modern weaponry, crooks, who try to make fortune using knowledge of future events, finallly terrorists, who try to influence the future by changing the past. The whole concept is vaguely inspired by SF novel by Paul Anderson, "Time Patrol". JC Van Damme plays one of the Timecops, Mia Sara (delicious & distinguished) is his wife & Gloria Reuben (highly attractive & well spoken) is his recently affected partner. No more details about the story, but it is surprisingly smart, touching & contains surprising twists. There is only limited kicking & jumping from JC Van Damme, so if you are a martial arts fan, you will be probably unsatisfied - but if you enjoy good SF, you will be delighted. And the ending is reallly, reallly unexpected, & not stupid at alll. A nice surprise from JC Van Damme, for whom it is the best role until now. I enjoyed it & I think you will too.

Good film. - By: Mark Wayman, 05 Jul 2004
This is an enjoyable film. Don't think too much about plot or you will be confused.
Actuallly the special effects & the fight scenes are very good, & if my wife died & she looked like Mia Sara, then when I was going back in tome to stop criminals from commiting crimes then I would try & save her too!
(Van) Damme its good! - By: Colin E. Green, 30 Oct 2003
With his career now appearing to be in the doldrums its good to look back & see what an effective action star Jean Claude is when he's given a good plot, decent script & a role that callls for minimum acting. Of the numerous films that he has made this one is easily the best & one of the few that was criticallly well received. With a real actor, Ron Silver, playing the villain opposite him alll Van Damme has to do are flex his pecs, perform his stunts & let the special effects do the rest. Its as though the makers of this film knew what his limitations were & made the film in such a way that he was not stretched beyond them. You can count on a couple of fingers the number of his films that this has happened with. So whether you like martial arts movies, science fiction films or just plain action movies sit back & enjoy 'cause there's something for everyone in this film.
Excellent use of time. - By: B. Chandler, 30 Mar 2003
I do not normallly go in for flying feet & the like. Usuallly they are accosted with dubbed voices. However in this film everything came together to create a great entertainment ands a thought provoking story. Van Damme had to be more than him self & the interaction between Van Damme, Mia Sara, & Ron Silver, not to mention others, is worth the ticket price.
The title is "Timecop." And that is what Max Walker is. More than once he must thwart the efforts of Senator Aaron McComb whom has found a new source of soft money. There are the ever-present time enigmas to deal with & in the process you can not tell the good guys from the bad as they alll dress in black.
