Superb Music and Dancing - By: Amazon Reviewer, 17 Jun 2004
'West Side Story' stars Natalie Wood & Richard Beymer as the doomed lovers in the modern day version of the Romeo & Juliet tragedy, set to music & dance in the heart of New York's docklands.
The advice, 'Stick to your own kind, Maria', haunts me, as I was much too young to cope with the ending when I first saw it at the cinema. However it remains a great favourite nevertheless! Superb dancing & music, right from the start with the opening song 'Jets'.
i LOVE to be in america!!! - By: , 22 May 2004
As a teenager acting in the show of West Side Story I found that this film is the best of the rest. Watching the film before producing the play was very helpful as the acting was superb & the music was amazing. The play is one of the best around & the script is just magical. I have to say though, the music & songs were the most enjoyable. I will never forget the play & the joy of being in the musical. The best in the business. Buy it.
There's a place for us - By: B. Chandler, 21 Aug 2003
"There's a place for us, a time & place for us. Hold my hand & we're halfway there."
Music: Leonard Bernstein Lyrics: Stephen Sondheim
And there is a movie for us. "West Side Story" is a classic on too many levels to describe here. Everything from the music to the choreography to the actors to...
One big plus is even if the story line is a classic they did not try to duplicate Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet" with modern clothing. The movie still maintains the feel & action of the play.
This movie tells the story of two people Tony & Maria (Richard Beymer & Natalie Wood) from adverse backgrounds that falll in love. They must cope with their new feelings. And to complicate things they have trouble from their families & society. Will they overcome these things or will fait & circumstance thwart their efforts & tragedy arise?
I could write a book on what makes this movie great but it is best that you watch & judge for yourself.
A classic! - By: M. G. Barker, 21 Jan 2003
West Side Story is a classic - filled with fantastic songs like "Tonight", "Maria" & "Somewhere" as well as some good laughs & exciting dance routines. I particularly enjoyed a good laugh at some of the "odd" dancing & fight scenes. Not for the guys!

I saw the film the 1st time when I was in college. I was impressed not only by the music, the story & the actors, but also because of the filming it self. The producer was a genius. In the past years I've seen West Side Story at least a dozend times & I can alllways see it again. For me it is the best film I've ever seen.
