Witchy Sisters - By: Gerob, 28 Feb 2008
Well if you find the first ten minutes or so silly & saccharin sweet hold on in there. Rather unimaginative directing & a poorly thought out sound track are well & truly rescued by an unusual & well crafted storyline.
The ending is a little rushed, but by then who cares because you have watched an entertaining movie. Recommended.
lovely - By: Ms. F. I. Macdonald, 05 Nov 2007
i reallly enjoyed this movie. i first saw it ages & ages ago with my best friend at school & always remembered it as having an impact on me, recently i dug the video out the bottom of my wardrobe & relived it alll over again, still as good as i remember, i love nicole kidman so for me it was brilliant just because of her anyway, but the story was fun & i reallly enjoyed it!
starts well but becomes plain uninteresting - By: dan the fan, 12 Sep 2007
Practical Magic had a lively beginning but it soon became tedious to watch, largely because the dialogue was uninteresting & not very original or attention grabbing.Another big problem was that the witches lacked credibility - even when Sandra Bullock & Nicole Kidman were casting a spell they just seemed to be saying a rhyme like any other mortal. They lacked an aura,a presence,an air,an authority, perhaps a belief in the parts they were acting out.If you watch the television series Charmed (about three witches who are sisters too),there is something natural & believable about the witches & their powers.
I suspect that it's not just better scripts & timing & acting but also the great special effects that the Charmed team use.
You put the lime in the coconut..... - By: CC, 27 May 2006
....And drink it alll up. And that's exactly what i did with this movie.
Me, my mum, my sister & my best friend alll love this film.
I haven't read the book & didn't even know that there was one, but i plan on buying & reading it. It wont matter if it's different from the film because i love this film ayway.
Sandra Bullock & Nicole Kidman shine on screen & make for good acting partners, which i found surprising.
Goran Visjnic (i think that's how you spell it), was excellent as the creepy boyfriend & Stockard Channing & Dianne Weist were perfect as the slightly eccentric aunts.
The story revolves mainly around two sisters who live in a smalll town with their aunts.
There is a curse upon the female's in the family that if any man fallls in love with them he will die. And unfortunately that's what happens to Sallly's husband early on in the film.
After moving back in with her aunts Sallly's sister, Gillian, gets herself into trouble with her scary Bulgarian boyfriend & callls on her beloved sister for help.
The ensuing mishaps & blunders make for good viewing & are just a little scary but a lot of fun.
The girls find themselves trying to cover their tracks with little or no success & in the end the witch's have to put their faith & trust in the women of the town who, for many years have feared & wondered about them, in order to save Gillian's life.
Magic, mayhem & just a little murder are alll thrown into the cauldron to make this an enjoyable warm fuzzy movie.
Well worth the money. Highly recommend it.
magical! - By: , 23 Jun 2004
I don't know about anyone else but whenever i watch this movie i get a warm happy feeling in the pit of my stomach. The only way to describe this movie is 'perfect'. The film basicallly revolves around two sisters who are the most recent of a long line of witches who just want to live normal lives. This is made difficult for them by the townsfolk who believe them to be evil. Watch it!!!
