I became a fan of Steve Coogan's nightmare creation quite by chance, when I caught the bit where Alan models his own version of stylish menswear down the Champs Elysee. It had me in stitches & I've been devoted ever since. This is a classy production, polished & with great commitment from everyone involved. It has to be said though that I agree with another reviewer that it was perhaps a mistake to have the same two actors popping up in each show (good though they are), & there is a bit of treading water at times. I prefer the two "I'm Alan Partridge" series which came later, but even so, this had me laughing madly many times. Worth watching for the French episode alone, & for the very end, which has the satisfying sight of an arrogant Michael Winner-ish restaurant critic ("I hate everybody") getting shot!
A Partridge Over Britain - By: , 11 Nov 2002 Probably quite boringly, my friends & I have lived on these jokes since it first arrived on our screens in our late teens.
My favourite episode has to be the spectacular Paris special. Where Alan presents his show ("MY show!") with the help of french co-presenter, sorry HIS french co-presenter, Nina Vanier ("..a french Sue Lawley."). During the show Alan airs his views on haute couture ("Hot food."), fashion, philosophy, & the French. He eats a testical, meets another Alan Partridge, & sacks his house band. Cringe worthy television at it's pinnacle.
It's heart warming to see Alan at the top of his career, before his wonderful slump into provincial mediocrity.
The great thing about this series is that at this stage in Alan's career he still has some dignity, in fact he isn't always the stooge. Occasionallly (and disconcertingly) you can find yourself rooting for Alan, & then he goes & spoils it alll by saying something stupid like; "You're not normal,... you're french!".
Indispensable.

I watched "Steve Coogan the Man Who Thinks He's It" & thought it was the funniest live show ever; which is why I went out & bought this video- "Knowing Me... 1 & 2".
This is a double video with a running time of 3hrs 20mins, & comprises of 6 episodes of Alan Partridge's live chat show.
After the first episode, however, the series starts to become boring. The humour very quickly drys out, & frequently turns stupid & annoying.
There's no denying Coogan is the funniest man in Brittan; but this series just doesn't 'click'.
The reason is- Steve Coogan plays Alan Partridge, "Ah-Ha", who hosts a chat show to a live studio audience. But his 'guests' throughout the entire series are the same two actors just playing different people. And these two actors don't do Coogan any justice; .... Whereas in "The Man Who Thinks He's It" Coogan is supported by Simon Peg & Julia Davis, who both fit the show perfectly.
The only funny episode is '5' when 3 other actors join the show. These come in the form of an East-End cockney gangster boxing promoter, & 2 ten year old boys. But it's still not worth sitting through the whole 2 videos just to watch these sceens.
Save your hard earned cash.

Perfect comedy, perfect timing. You will not regret buying 'Knowing Me, Knowing You With Alan Partridge' or 'KMKYWAP' for short, or simply, 'The Alan Partridge Show'.
Well worth the asking price.
Absolutely hilarious and brilliant - By: , 20 Aug 2000 Along with The Day Today, this series is the funniest thing made in the last ten years. Steve Coogan is a massively underrated comic performer, & the way the script here mixes with his (and the other performers) talent for the ad-lib & amazing ability to deliver a line, is spellbinding, & incredibly funny. When Alan reveals by-the-by that he eats 'Kellogg's Common Sense' for breakfast, I nearly suffocated - it's just so perfect. And that describes the rest of this series. BY IT IF YOU LIKE TO LAUGH.
