The final episodes - By: D. Evans, 08 Jul 2007
After 19 episodes, the third & final series V was suddenly axed. Although the programme had seen ratings decrease significantly, resulting in it getting relegated in America to an afternoon slot, it would seem that the cancellation of the programme had taken the production team by surprise. The final episode ends on an unresolved cliffhanger, which would have been dealt with in the unfilmed finale.
Secret Underground has some reasonable sequences, such as Julie meeting up again with her ex lover, now a collaborator with the Visiters. It is stated that she left her former boyfriend to concentrate on her career, yet in the original series it is presumed shortly after this time, she is introduced as living with another boyfriend, so much for the career plan.
Thankfully Elizabeth is not featured in Secret Underground, although Willy & Kyle are given alll to brief appearances in the episode. Donovan & Julie, surely the 2 most unwanted people by the Visitors, decide to sneak aboard the mothership to locate a missing hidden list that contains the names of resistance leaders, which in the visitors hands could change the war. It is not explained why the fifth columnists could not conduct the search, nor why Donovan & Julie do not wear a disguise. In addition surely it would be a near impossibility to locate a smalll disc on a two mile wide mothership. In one sequence Julie even suggests trying the quarters of James. But how on Earth would she know where this is.
The final episode features the Visitor leader callling a truce just as it looks certain that the resistance will be killed. By this stage it is clear that the budget had run out for the series, in one sequence we see the resistance travelling to the mothership in a shuttle, only for them to get out of a smalller skyfighter. Although by this point, few people were watching the series.
