I didn't know what to expect when I saw this movie, as I was in the middle of a two or three-month stretch of renting out nothing but "hood" movies, most of which were fairly mediocre. Here, though, I wasn't disappointed.
I'd never seen Omar Epps in a movie before this one, & I have to admit, I was pretty shocked that such an amazing actor had passed me by without my noticing. His role isn't an easy one to play - it could so easily have been overacted - yet he gives a flawless performance as a troubled man trying to figure out where his loyalties lie. LL Cool J fills out his role very well, making a menacing - if vaguely cliched - drug lord, & Stanley Tucci brings a sense of comfort & lightness as the police chief & Epps' mentor.
It is Epps, however, who makes the film. I've since seen other movies with him in, yet this remains one of his best performances. I loved it, my best male friend loved it, my 60-year-old mother loved it. Go watch it. =)

This is actuallly a very good film. LL Cool J plays an unusual role as a rough ruthless gang leader & he plays it brilliantly. Throughout the film Omar Epps goes undercover as his second in command & its pretty much the same story...BUT...with this i reallly did start to wonder how it was going to end. And you will 2. Not for everyone but i would certainly recommend it to everyone anyway. Reallly well done & acting makes you feel like it is actuallly happening.
A wicked Gangsta film - By: , 08 Feb 2001 This absolutely superb! A great watch, tense alll they way through. It's gotta be said that LL Cool J plays fannys in most of his films. But not in this one! He is a proper rude-boy. I can guarantee that you won't be playing pool for at least a week after watching this! Omar Epps is also great, just like he was in higher learning. On the whole, this film is a classic & is realy along the same lines as New Jack City. Watch it!

This dvd was the first movie i brought & it had me sitting on the edge of the seat from the beginning to the end. Excellent acting from LL Cool J who is the hard time gangster. Great actor Omar Epps plays the undercover cop which has been given a dangerous mission to stop the gangster. The film shows how the cop is slowly losing his true identity when he is getting more & more involved with the gangster gang. Non stop fast action & gun shotting film. A film that probably more for the lads but im a young lass & thoughly enjoyed this film. I would recommend this to anyone.
