I bought this DVD after i watched it on TV on a lazy morning off from work. I wanted to show it to my partner who loves wolves & i wanted to watch it again. The mixture of cinematography, documentary, soundtrack & rites of passage story was perfect & powerful. The music is by Mark Isham who has done many soundtracks for movies such as The Hitcher & gives this movie a meditative feel. The filming of a pair of Arctic wolves & their new family was from nature & not rehearsed. And the changes that the protagonist goes through by being in this environment & meeting the wolves & more importantly an elder Inuit make this very much like a traditional story. The Inuit actors they used are very good & they lend the film an atmosphere which is palpable. The story also illustrates the conflict between human & animal survival & does not pass judgement leaving it up to the viewer without, like so many movies these days, being heavy-handed. A gem.
